Headlights stopped working. the only way i can have lights is if i hold on my highbeams manualy. I was told ether a relay, the switch , or the balis. When I turn the headlight switch on my parking lights work but no headlights

It's the switch. The switches go bad and you need to buy a whole new one. not a tough fix though. About $175 for the new one.

The ignition key does not return to the original position. You will find that the indicators is also not working. Just turn the key back a bit after you started the car.

Well, I can't for the life of me figure out what the Hell you're talking about.. but either way, buy a new switch and everything will work again. Don't waste your time playing with the ignition because it has absolutely zero to do with your problem. The stalk goes bad sometimes, blame it on audi electronics if you will. If you play with it you'll probably see your cruise doesn't work either... usually the sign before the lights stop working.

Actually the ignition can cause the problem sometimes. I found my headlights and turn signals only worked with the key turned on but not with the engine started. Having already cleaned the contacts on the light switch, I walked out, started my car and the lights didn't work. While the car was running, I turned the key back just a little and they came on.

I understand your frustration. I have no running lights (front or back) at all; just signals and breaks. Any ideas out there?

Having the same issues. No high low beams unless manually held on high, no running lights or dash lights, just blinkers.

Mine just died tonight, 4th or 5th time (multiple different a4s). It's either the headlight/turnsignal assembly switch; or the ignition switch ( in its running, or on position it controls these) (in its off position it starts the car) Good videos on YouTube, it's easy too. Allen wrench, Phillips screwdriver, t32 starbolt.

I'm having the same issue, on my 1998 Audi A4 Quattro, I have to hold down my handles, and use my high beams, when I'm driving at night, I think it's my headlights
