Are you attempting to replace the alternator? On a lift, support the engine, remove or lower subframe and intercooler piping to access the alternator.

You'll have to support the body of the car very carefully! You can lower the subframe without removing it completely. Disconnect the rack from the subframe so it stays in position. Remove the ball joints so the suspension stays attached to the body.

Actuly if you do it the way i did it in my audi you can leave all the things in place. Service mode does not require the full removal of the rad and cooler You can do the same job by removing the bumper and moving the service wall forward enough to allow you clearance to do the job. The only thing you may have to remove before trying to pull it out is the passenger side engine mount and subframe mounting plate. these cars are really tight space and i have had my alternator out more times then i car to count because a website i ordered the parts from kept sending me duds :S

Christopher is saying it right. Their is no other way. All the engines are different to removing the alternator. I got pictures to show it later on.
