My 95 gmc 1500 won't catch in reverse. It is fine forward. Could it be the shift module?

It will roll back when in R but when I hit the gas it won't catch, just sputters

If it was the TCM you would have a check engine light, I'm thinking it could either be a bad reverse solenoid or the reverse band is broke inside the transmission.
