what could be making the icm keep going out? it's dies when put into reverse, also the temp gauge hasn't worked scence I dropped the transmission to replace the front pump, it back fires when it goes

Replacing the ignition control module fixes it for a while? If so, is the dielectric grease being applied to the bottom of the module? Also if the temp. gage was working, go back and check the connection to the sensor.

check the cap and rotor. also check your ground cables look for wires pinched by the bell housing
