2006 GS 300 or '07/'08 IS 250 (w/Nav)?

Asked by natedouglas34 Aug 03, 2012 at 12:49 PM about the 2007 Lexus IS 250 RWD

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I want to get either a 2006 GS 300 or an '07/'08 IS 250 with nav. Whatever I get will be CPO with the
100k warranty.

Which car will have the least mechanical problems after the warranty?
Which is cheaper maintain (including tires) over the long haul (I hear GS more expensive, but needs less
maintenance)?
Which will hold it's value better?

I like that the GS is bigger, but the IS with nav in the '07/'08 models has more technology.

I Drive a 2007 IS350 and I love it so Im a little biased. Truth is though, the GS is bigger, offers a more luxurious ride, and uses better materials than an entry level IS250. I chose the IS350 because it is by far the funnest Lexus to drive besides the flagship IS-F or $400,000 LFA. But if your looking at a 2.5 liter IS or a 3 liter GS and the only difference is one model year, get the GS.

mechanically speaking both are very reliable. The 07 IS250 can have problems with a camshaft bearing cap-its about a $400 fix. They should hold their value equally as well.
