There are several things that can cause an engine to miss. You didn't mention the year of your car, but here are a few generic things that can cause a miss. Plugs, plug wires, cap, rotor, magnetic pick-up, ignition coil, sticky valve, fuel injector...... One easy method to check the wires and coil is to get your car in to a very dark garage and have car running and watch for sparks jumping from anywhere on or around these areas.
