Sudden poor mpg

Asked by Feb 08, 2014 at 04:25 PM about the Volkswagen EuroVan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

the engine light went on about 20 miles into a road trip, and then, going from mountains to plains, the mpg dropped from 19 to around 13 and stayed there.  Mechanic suspects computer, but does not have equipment to diagnose or fix. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!

If the engine light is on, then one of your sensors is detecting a problem, hence the low MPG. You probably don't need a new computer or ECM. Scan for codes and you will pinpoint the area of concern.
