Question type: Car Customization

I have a 64 gto engine 389 and have a chance to buy a 65 gto 389 tripower. Will it fit? It looks like the heater hoses are hooked up different. thanks

I would give it a shot. Check with the people over at www.highperformancepontiac.com to see if there were any engine changes between the two years.

Please do your home work on this! there are differences in porting with some engines; the restoration guide will be your best friend and the advise given above is also excellent.

The 65 tri-power will not fit the 64 engine without changing the heads to 65 and up. The bolt pattern is different.

Exactly right, intake bolt pattern changed in '65, so you will need 65 and up heads. There's a ton of them out there. If this is going to be a street car, get the 6x, they have the larger valves, moderate compression ratio for today's crap gas, and better porting. Put some stainless valves and bronze guides and you'll have a reliable setup. Check the head comparisons at Wallace Racing. Butler Performance is also a good source.
