If starter is bad, will that keep the engine from turning over?
My 1973 VW Beetle won't start . When I turn the key, all it does is click. I don't know enuf about engines to do anymore troubleshooting. All I know is it has a brand new battery, so I can elliminate that. Please someone that knows something about VW's help me. I'm at witts end.
From what your saying your starter is bad. You can take your starter into most auto stores and they will test it for you for free. I would do this just to make sure.
even tho the battery is new doesn't mean that's not the problem in most cases its not the problem but it could be, have the battery tested or try boosting the car first to see if it starts with a boost, if it does start with a boost then the battery is bad or you have a electrical drain on your system that is draining the battery. Check your connections on the battery first if they loose even a little bit that will also cause it to just go "click" and not start, the battery terminals should be clean and tight (no build up of white/green powder on terminals).
Replace the starter wheather it need it or not.believe me it needs it.it is a1973.replace all under the hood. Not a lot of money
