how do i find a model of my car if there isnt one on the log book????

i am bringing a irish reg car into ni so to get it changed a need to insure it and they says they will insure it threw its VIN number but they need to know what model it is { GTI,TDI,S,etc} but on the log book it says just a standard 1.4 golf but they say it wont come up a plan one only different models but a have contacted not one but three VW main dealers two in NI and one in the free state and they looked up the car and said the same thing that its a plain golf with no model but that inst good enuf for the insurance company ???????
but it doesn't say on the logbook that its and S ? am fed up at this stage because the insurance company are willing to insure me by my VIN but they are taking the piss about a model
Have you considered trying ANOTHER insurance company? Maybe a 2nd insurance company won't be a pain in the ass, like this one is...
well if a change i will lose my year ncb but managed to get it sorted they foned vw and vw told them what a told them and there happy enough to change it
