This is the first time I have ever owned or even worked on a diesel and I have
no idea where to even start with it. First off what would cause my antifreeze cap
to keep blowing off while I am driving, also what would cause white smoke
instead of black out of my exhaust, and last what would be the cause of my
starter going out? This has all happened in just a a few weeks a part from each
other. If I need to get into more detail please just say so in your response and I
will. Thank you.
Too much cooling system pressure, possible blown headgaskets, that would also explain the white smoke.
Did the starter just quit or was there any hard cranking beforehand? Not uncommon for a diesel starter to just give up, they do draw a lot of amps and make a lot of torque to turn over a Diesel engine. Might have just been time for it to go away.
When it gets a lot of boost is when it blows the radiator cap. As for the starter you are right it was just ready for a new one.
Diesel repairs are best left to qualified repair people. There are very many expensive parts on your 6.0 diesel and diagnosis will require some knowledge and experience. Throwing parts at diesel repairs can be stupid expensive.
Yep sure sounds like a blown headgasket or the rare cracked cylinderhead, please do what Bob suggested, have a qualified Diesel shop check it out, repairs on these is complex and expensive, so you want it done right the first time.
