1986 HONDA CIVIC DX 93k miles, excellent condition What is good asking price?
looking at a car for my daughter. came across a 1986 HONDA CIVIC DX. only 93k miles and is in excellent condition. What is a fair price?
NADA old car can give you a price guide, but I have found that they seem a bit too high on the values, book vs real life. It is almost 30 years old, and even a Honda requires work from time to time, granted the mileage is low, and that can bring on other problems when it becomes a daily driver. So 1 thing you might want to do is if your serious about this car is see if the owners would be willing to let you take it to some shop that does a used car check, it may cost a little, but it is money well spent, and if they do find something wrong then you have more bargaining power. Hope this has helped.
Hard to find a lot of pricing detail for a car that's about 29 years old (Hondas are good cars, but are you REALLY sure you want to buy a car that old for your daughter??). I was able to find something though. Based on what I did find, I would say spend no more than $1,500 on it. http://www.carsforsale.com/used-cars/1986-honda-civic
Racer_X is correct about the price. And I agree with him about the safety factor. The newer cars are far safer and the plastic on the old car is becoming brittle. Why don't you drive the Honda and give your daughter your car? That way she has the safety features and better performance/gas mileage and you can have fun with the old car.
