1977 Caprice Classic WONT START.

Asked by Hunter Hop-skotch Apr 26, 2017 at 09:12 AM about the 1977 Chevrolet Caprice

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I started my Caprice classic this morning just fine
but when I started to drive it, it died after about 5
ft. The battery and everything comes on but the
car won't turn over. It keeps trying but it won't
start. Fuel problem???

Need to check for spark first, if there is spark then it could be a fuel problem. You could look down into the carburetor and work the throttle to see if gas squirts onto the throttle plates. It should be a good stream when working the throttle. If there is then it probably is a spark issue.

Well I notice that my floor mat was curled up on the gas pedal and was possibly flooding it. It started up after I resolved that. Thank god I was only gone for just a moment. But thank you, I took your advice and checked it out and noticed I do need new spark plugs. I have yet to check my carburator out
