Asked by ronlngbch Mar 16, 2017 at 01:33 PM about the 1997 Honda CR-V

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

It started with key sticking in 2nd position where radio plays but not air
conditioner or car moving, then key is stuck in ignition  & can't take out, it
drains battery overnight even though I turn off all electric lights! Do I need
a new ignition switch?

Move the steering wheel: Try to move the steering wheel back and forth while gently removing the key from the lock position. Sometimes the steering wheel will lock, and when this happens, the ignition switch will keep your key locked in place until the steering system is unlocked. Don't pull hard on the key at all.....

Had a issue with the key stuck in ignition. I started my cr v and lock the doorlock , then drive around parking lot and stop the car. Then change gear to Park. OR you can also shift different positions and finally put the shift lever to Park position while car is stopped with brake applied. Also, unlock the doorlock if it does not automatically unlocks by shifting the lever to Park position. Looks like it has spmething to do with the automatic transmission gear selection, especially from or to Park position. Sometimes it is not fully engaged to Park position even if it says P at the instrument panel.
