Summary
With 4,051 currently listed for sale and an average price of $22,972.00, 31.8% of 2020 Honda CR-Vs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Honda CR-V 4.6 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2020 Honda CR-V stands out as a polished compact SUV that has had years to settle into a comfortable, capable formula. Honda’s long-running success with the CR-V is reflected in its broad appeal, and this model year adds engine and safety upgrades that improve fuel economy and help make it an even stronger value. It also earns praise for great handling and fuel efficiency, two traits that make it easy to live with in everyday driving.
At the same time, the 2020 CR-V is not trying to be flashy, and that restraint can be both a strength and a weakness. Its understated character may be exactly what many buyers want, but the tradeoff is outdated technology and interior materials that feel cheap. Even so, the combination of practicality, efficiency, and improved safety gives the 2020 Honda CR-V a clear identity as a sensible, well-rounded choice.

This is our second CR-V. Love it! It is just the right size with some cargo room. Really like sitting higher than I do in our sedan. Of course I am a huge fan of the heated seats and remote start here in Northeast Ohio. Good on gas. Looking forward to many years and miles with this car.

How much does the 2020 Honda CR-V cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $23,018 |
| Year-Round Low | $22,348.51 |
| Year-Round High | $24,234.03 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $24,219 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −4.96% |
Prices have softened 4.96% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
With 4,128 listings available, you have a solid amount of inventory to compare across trims and conditions.
If you find a listing below $22,348.51, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2020 Honda CR-V a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Honda CR-V earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating.
The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Form and function, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its spaciousness, excellent features, and strong performance. They also highlight the advanced technology and safety features offered at a fair price, which fits a shopper looking for a practical, well-equipped compact SUV.
The trade-offs are familiar: some owners want more equipment such as parking sensors and built-in navigation, and a few feel the vehicle is overpriced.
That lines up with the CR-V’s role as a sensible, well-rounded compact SUV that prioritizes everyday usefulness over flash.
With 29.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2020 Honda CR-V reliable?
Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owners describe the CR-V as reliable and dependable, and the feedback also points to a trouble-free ownership experience that many buyers can count on. The expert review reinforces that sense of durability by describing the CR-V as a comfortable, capable crossover package that has had years to settle into a refined formula.
Honda also backs the model with a standard warranty, and the cost-effectiveness review notes that the new engine makes the base model a more attractive value proposition.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about mechanical drama and more about choosing a well-kept example with the right equipment and condition.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Honda CR-V?
At 68.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the equipment level matches what you expect for the trim.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The LX is the simplest version, with a smaller infotainment screen and fewer convenience features, while higher trims add the larger screen, smartphone integration, blind-spot monitoring, heated seats, a moonroof, and other upgrades.
- Powertrain: The lineup uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 190 horsepower and 179 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT; it is tuned for smooth, efficient everyday driving.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, road-departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring and cross-traffic monitoring are limited to EX trims and above.
- Infotainment: The LX gets a 5-inch screen, while higher trims use a 7-inch touchscreen; Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available only with the larger screen, and the Touring adds navigation and wireless phone charging.
- Fuel efficiency: FWD models are rated at 30 mpg combined, while AWD models are rated at 29 mpg combined.
Which 2020 Honda CR-V trim should I buy?
The 2020 Honda CR-V is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, and Touring.
Here's the short version:
- LX: This is the least expensive way into the CR-V, but it is also the most stripped-down. You get the standard safety suite and the basic 5-inch infotainment screen, yet you miss out on the larger touchscreen, smartphone integration, blind-spot monitoring, and several comfort upgrades. It makes sense only if your priority is the lowest entry price.
- EX: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the larger 7-inch screen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, blind-spot monitoring, heated seats, rear privacy glass, a moonroof, keyless entry, and a better audio system. If you want the most useful upgrades without overspending, this is the trim to target.
- EX-L: This trim is mainly about comfort upgrades, led by leather upholstery, plus a power-adjustable front passenger seat, a power tailgate, and a built-in garage door opener. It suits you if you want a more upscale cabin without jumping all the way to the top trim.
- Touring: This is the most feature-rich version, with navigation, wireless phone charging, ambient lighting, and LED headlights. It is the right pick if you want the most equipment and are willing to pay for it, but the value case is weaker than on the EX.
The safety package is standard across the lineup, but the Touring is the only trim with LED headlights, which improve nighttime visibility.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Honda CR-V?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.
- Deal availability: 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,128 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.96% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 68.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $22,348.51, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Honda CR-V's resale value?
The current average of $23,018 sits slightly below last year's $24,219.
That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. If you keep the vehicle in good condition and choose a desirable trim, you may be better positioned when it is time to sell.
The CR-V’s broad appeal also helps support future demand, especially because shoppers continue to value its practicality and efficiency.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Honda CR-V safe?
The 2020 Honda CR-V earned a Top Safety Pick designation from IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA, including five-star ratings in the frontal crash and side crash tests and a four-star rating in the rollover test.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda Sensing is standard and includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, road-departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring and cross-traffic monitoring are standard only on EX trims and above.
One caveat is that IIHS noted weaker halogen headlight performance on trims below Touring, while the Touring’s LED headlights improve nighttime visibility.
Should I buy a 2020 Honda CR-V or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 68.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.96% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- This year adds engine and safety upgrades that improve fuel economy and value.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $20,927, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $23,018 average.
- It is refined, roomy, and known for reliability.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $24,358, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $23,018 average.
- It emphasizes cargo space, standard safety features, and strong everyday value.
The bottom line: The 2020 is the sweet spot if you want the updated engine and safety improvements without paying next-year pricing. If your budget is tighter, the 2019 can still make sense as a lower-cost alternative, while the 2021 is worth considering only if you find a compelling example or want to spend more for a newer model year.
