CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Honda CR-V
overall

Summary
With 4,508 currently listed for sale and an average price of $22,633, 36.2% of 2020 Honda CR-V listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Honda CR-V 4.6 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
68.3% of 2020 Honda CR-V listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Honda CR-V stands out as a polished compact SUV that has had years to settle into a comfortable, capable formula. Honda’s long-running bestseller has sold more than five million examples, and that experience shows in a package that is easy to live with and broadly appealing. It also gets engine and safety upgrades this year, which improve fuel economy and help strengthen its value.
Behind the wheel, the CR-V’s strengths are straightforward: it handles well and is fuel-efficient. Those qualities make it an easy recommendation for buyers who want a practical crossover that does not demand much compromise. At the same time, it is not the most exciting choice, and its technology is dated. Some shoppers may also find the interior materials feel cheap, which keeps it from feeling as refined as its overall competence might suggest.

This is our second CR-V. Love it! It is just the right size with some cargo room. Really like sitting higher than I do in our sedan. Of course I am a huge fan of the heated seats and remote start here in Northeast Ohio. Good on gas. Looking forward to many years and miles with this car.

How much does the 2020 Honda CR-V cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $22,564 |
| Year-Round Low | $22,316 |
| Year-Round High | $23,748 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $23,750 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −5.00% |
Prices have softened 5.00% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 4,471 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing trims and prices.
Is the 2020 Honda CR-V a good car?
Yes — owners rate it 4.6/5, and experts give it 7.5/10. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Form and function, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its spaciousness, excellent features, and strong performance, and many also appreciate the advanced technology and safety features offered at a fair price. The overview points to a practical crossover that is easy to live with, with fuel-efficient driving manners and broad everyday appeal. The main trade-offs are that the technology feels dated and some interior materials feel cheap, so it suits you best if you value comfort and competence over flash. Good and great deals account for 33.4% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2020 Honda CR-V reliable?
Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle that many drivers feel good about keeping for the long haul, with praise for its dependable-feeling ownership experience and strong overall satisfaction. The expert review also describes the CR-V as a comfortable, capable crossover that has had years to settle into a polished formula, which supports the case for steady day-to-day use. Honda’s new engine and safety upgrades this year also help strengthen its value proposition. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific vehicle has been maintained well and hasn’t been neglected.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Honda CR-V?
At 68.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, repair quality, and whether the vehicle’s equipment matches the trim level being advertised. If you’re comparing multiple listings, give extra weight to clean history, consistent maintenance, and signs that the safety and infotainment features are working properly.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base LX is front-wheel drive and starts with a 5-inch screen, while higher trims add a 7-inch touchscreen, more USB ports, a moonroof, and better interior materials. The pricier models also bring leather upholstery, roof rails, and other comfort upgrades, but the base trim is the most stripped-down.
- Powertrain: The 2020 CR-V uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 190 horsepower and a CVT. It is tuned for smooth, efficient everyday driving rather than sporty performance.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, road-departure mitigation, and adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist. Blind-spot monitoring and cross-traffic monitoring are limited to EX trims and above.
- Infotainment: The base trim gets a 5-inch screen, while higher trims use a 7-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available only with the larger screen, and Honda’s own navigation is limited to Touring.
- Fuel efficiency: FWD models are rated at 30 mpg combined, and AWD models are rated at 29 mpg combined.
Which 2020 Honda CR-V trim should I buy?
The 2020 Honda CR-V is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring.
Here's the short version:
- LX: This is the least expensive way into the CR-V, but it is also the most basic. You get the standard safety suite, but the small 5-inch screen and limited tech make it the least appealing choice if you plan to keep the vehicle for a while.
- EX: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the larger infotainment screen, smartphone integration, blind-spot monitoring, heated seats, a moonroof, keyless entry, and a better audio system.
- EX-L: Choose this if you want a more upscale cabin. It mainly adds leather upholstery, plus a power passenger seat, a power tailgate, and a built-in garage door opener.
- Touring: This is the most feature-rich trim, with navigation, a heated steering wheel, wireless phone charging, ambient lighting, and LED headlights. It is the right pick if you want the most equipment and the best nighttime lighting.
Blind-spot monitoring and cross-traffic monitoring are standard only on EX trims and above.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Honda CR-V?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.
- Deal availability: 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,471 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.00% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 68.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $22,316, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Honda CR-V's resale value?
The current average of $22,564 sits slightly below last year's $23,750.
That softer pricing suggests the CR-V has become a little more buyer-friendly in the used market, which can help you if you’re shopping now. For a future seller, it means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim appeal rather than on broad market momentum alone. Well-equipped examples with clean history should hold up better than basic or heavily worn ones.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Honda CR-V safe?
The 2020 Honda CR-V earns a Top Safety Pick designation from IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA, including five-star ratings in the frontal crash and side crash tests and a four-star rating in rollover testing.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda Sensing is standard, and it includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, road-departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring and cross-traffic monitoring are standard only on EX trims and above. One caveat is that IIHS noted weaker halogen headlight performance on trims below Touring, which is why the designation comes with trim-specific caveats.
Should I buy a 2020 Honda CR-V or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 68.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.00% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- This year brings engine and safety upgrades that improve fuel economy and value.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $20,532, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $22,564 average.
- It is refined, roomy, and historically reliable.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $24,065, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $22,564 average.
- It emphasizes cargo space, standard safety, and strong value.
The bottom line: The 2020 is the sweet spot if you want the updated engine and safety improvements without paying the 2021’s higher average price. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2019 can still make sense, but the 2020 gives you a stronger mix of value and updated equipment.
