CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Honda CR-V
overall

Summary
With 350 currently listed for sale near Washington, DC and an average price of $23,856, 38.6% of 2020 Honda CR-Vs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Honda CR-V 4.6 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
100.0% of 2020 CR-V models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Honda CR-V stands out as a polished compact SUV that has been refined over a long run, with more than five million CR-Vs sold. By this point, Honda’s bestseller had settled into a comfortable and capable crossover package, and this year’s model adds engine and safety upgrades that improve fuel economy and strengthen its value. It also earns praise for great handling and fuel efficiency, two traits that help it feel easy to live with in everyday driving.
At the same time, the 2020 Honda CR-V is not trying to be flashy, and that restraint can be part of its appeal. The main drawbacks noted are outdated technology and interior materials that feel cheap, so buyers looking for a more upscale cabin or the latest tech may find it less compelling. Even so, its broad appeal comes from doing the basics well: it is practical, efficient, and generally satisfying for shoppers who want a straightforward compact SUV.

This is our second CR-V. Love it! It is just the right size with some cargo room. Really like sitting higher than I do in our sedan. Of course I am a huge fan of the heated seats and remote start here in Northeast Ohio. Good on gas. Looking forward to many years and miles with this car.

I cant think of one thing to improve this car. It is so roomy for a midsize SUV and the features are excellent even on the base trim package. I love my new 2020 Honda CR-V!

How much does the 2020 Honda CR-V cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $22,970 |
| Year-Round Low | $22,329 |
| Year-Round High | $24,181 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $24,182 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −5.01% |
Prices have softened 5.01% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 4,287 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.
Is the 2020 Honda CR-V a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Honda CR-V earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Form and function, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its spaciousness, excellent features, and strong performance, and many also value the advanced technology and safety features for the price. The main trade-offs are the outdated technology and interior materials that feel cheap, which can matter if you want a more upscale cabin or the latest interface. For you, that means the CR-V makes the most sense if you want a practical, efficient compact SUV that is easy to live with every day. Good and great deals account for 33.5% of the market, so there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2020 Honda CR-V reliable?
Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle people feel good about keeping, with repeated praise for its dependable-feeling ownership experience, spaciousness, and strong performance. The expert evaluation also supports that impression by describing the CR-V as a well-sorted crossover package that has had its wrinkles smoothed out over a long run. Honda’s new engine setup for this year also helps reinforce the sense that the model is built to be easy to count on. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about core durability and more about whether the specific vehicle has been maintained well and kept free of prior damage.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Honda CR-V?
At 69.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, repair quality, and whether the vehicle’s equipment matches the trim level advertised. If you are comparing multiple examples, pay close attention to the headlights and driver-assistance equipment, since those can vary by trim.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The LX is the simplest version, with a 5-inch screen, fabric seating, and fewer convenience features than higher trims. EX adds the larger infotainment screen, smartphone integration, blind-spot monitoring, heated seats, rear privacy glass, a moonroof, keyless entry, and a better audio system, while EX-L adds leather upholstery, a power front passenger seat, a power tailgate, and a Homelink garage door opener. Touring is the most fully equipped, with 19-inch wheels, roof rails, navigation, a wireless phone charger, ambient lighting, and LED headlights.
- Powertrain: The lineup uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 190 horsepower and 179 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT. It is tuned for smooth, efficient everyday driving rather than sporty performance, and front-wheel-drive models are rated at 30 mpg combined while all-wheel-drive models are rated at 29 mpg combined.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, road-departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring and cross-traffic monitoring are limited to EX trims and above.
- Infotainment: LX gets a 5-inch screen with Bluetooth and Pandora compatibility. Higher trims use a 7-inch touchscreen, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available only with that larger display. Touring adds built-in navigation and a wireless phone charger.
- Fuel efficiency: Front-wheel-drive models are rated at 30 mpg combined, while all-wheel-drive models are rated at 29 mpg combined.
Which 2020 Honda CR-V trim should I buy?
The 2020 Honda CR-V is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, and Touring.
Here's the short version:
- LX: This is the least expensive way into the CR-V, but it is also the most stripped-down. You get the standard safety suite, but the small 5-inch screen and limited tech make it the easiest trim to outgrow quickly.
- EX: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the larger touchscreen, smartphone integration, blind-spot monitoring, heated seats, a moonroof, keyless entry, and a better audio system. If you want the most useful mix of equipment and price, this is the one to target.
- EX-L: Choose this if you want a more upscale cabin and extra convenience features. Leather upholstery, a power passenger seat, a power tailgate, and Homelink make it a nicer long-term ownership choice without jumping all the way to Touring.
- Touring: This is the most fully equipped version, with navigation, wireless phone charging, ambient lighting, roof rails, and LED headlights. It makes sense if you want the top trim and value the lighting upgrade, but it is harder to justify on price alone.
Blind-spot monitoring and cross-traffic monitoring are standard only on EX trims and above.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Honda CR-V?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.
- Deal availability: 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,287 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.01% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 69.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $22,329, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Honda CR-V's resale value?
The current average of $22,970 sits slightly below last year's $24,182.
That softer pricing can help you buy more confidently now, but it also suggests the model has already absorbed some of its near-term depreciation. If you plan to resell later, the key will be buying at a sensible price and keeping the vehicle in strong condition. Well-kept examples with clean history should remain easier to move than damaged or poorly maintained ones. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Honda CR-V safe?
The 2020 Honda CR-V earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in the frontal crash test and side crash test, and a four-star rating in the rollover test. The CR-V also earns a Top Safety Pick designation from IIHS, with caveats for trims below Touring.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda Sensing is standard and includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, road-departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring and cross-traffic monitoring are standard only on EX trims and above. The main safety caveat is that the halogen headlights on lower trims scored only Marginal in IIHS testing, while Touring’s LED headlights improve nighttime visibility.
Should I buy a 2020 Honda CR-V or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 69.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.01% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- This year brings engine and safety upgrades that improve fuel economy and value.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $20,777, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $22,970 average.
- It is refined, roomy, and historically reliable.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $24,398, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $22,970 average.
- It offers plenty of cargo space, standard advanced safety features, and excellent value.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, efficiency, and standard safety, the 2020 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2019 can save you money while keeping the same basic formula. If you are willing to spend more for a newer-year alternative, the 2021 is worth comparing, but the 2020 already delivers the core CR-V strengths in a well-rounded package.
