CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Honda CR-V
overall

Summary
With 331 currently listed for sale near Washington, DC and an average price of $23,703, 39.0% of 2020 Honda CR-Vs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Honda CR-V 4.6 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
100.0% of 2020 CR-V models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Honda CR-V stands out as a polished compact SUV that has been refined over a long run, with more than five million CR-Vs sold. By this point, Honda’s bestseller had settled into a comfortable and capable crossover package, and this year’s model adds engine and safety upgrades that improve fuel economy and strengthen its value. It also earns praise for great handling and fuel efficiency, two traits that help it feel easy to live with in everyday driving.
At the same time, the 2020 Honda CR-V is not trying to be flashy, and that restraint can be part of its appeal. The main drawbacks noted are outdated technology and interior materials that feel cheap, so buyers looking for a more upscale cabin or the latest tech may find it less compelling. Even so, its broad appeal comes from doing the basics well: it is practical, efficient, and generally satisfying for shoppers who want a straightforward compact SUV.

This is our second CR-V. Love it! It is just the right size with some cargo room. Really like sitting higher than I do in our sedan. Of course I am a huge fan of the heated seats and remote start here in Northeast Ohio. Good on gas. Looking forward to many years and miles with this car.

I cant think of one thing to improve this car. It is so roomy for a midsize SUV and the features are excellent even on the base trim package. I love my new 2020 Honda CR-V!

How much does the 2020 Honda CR-V cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $23,000 |
| Year-Round Low | $22,329 |
| Year-Round High | $24,208 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $24,209 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −4.99% |
Prices have softened 4.99% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 4,263 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.
Is the 2020 Honda CR-V a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Honda CR-V earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Form and function, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its spaciousness, excellent features, and strong performance, and they also value the advanced technology and safety features for the price. In use, that lines up with the CR-V’s practical, easy-to-live-with character and its broad appeal as a straightforward compact SUV. The main trade-offs are outdated technology and interior materials that feel cheap, so you should expect function over flash. Even so, the market still shows 33.2% good or great deals, which leaves room to find value if you shop carefully.
Is the 2020 Honda CR-V reliable?
Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with many shoppers describing the CR-V as a vehicle they can count on. The expert evaluation also reinforces that sense of durability by describing it as a comfortable, capable crossover package that has been refined over a long run. Honda’s standard three-year or 36,000-mile warranty adds some early ownership coverage, and the 2020 model’s recall history means you should still verify service completion before buying. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the core mechanical package and more about finding one that has been maintained and repaired properly.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Honda CR-V?
At 69% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection so you can check for wear, uneven panel gaps, and signs of poor-quality repairs. It also makes sense to focus on trim-specific equipment, because the lower trims leave out some convenience and safety features that matter in daily use.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The LX is the base FWD model and keeps things simple, while EX, EX-L, and Touring add progressively more comfort and convenience. Base-trim shoppers should pay close attention to the smaller screen, limited smartphone integration, and the lack of blind-spot monitoring.
- Powertrain: The lineup uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 190 horsepower and 179 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT. FWD models are rated at 30 miles per gallon combined, while AWD models are rated at 29.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, road-departure mitigation, and adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist. Blind-spot monitoring and cross-traffic monitoring are limited to EX trims and above.
- Infotainment: LX trims get a 5-inch screen, while higher trims use a 7-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available only with the larger screen, and Touring adds Honda navigation plus a wireless phone charger.
- Fuel efficiency: FWD models are rated at 30 miles per gallon combined, and AWD models are rated at 29.
Which 2020 Honda CR-V trim should I buy?
The 2020 Honda CR-V is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, and Touring.
Here's the short version:
- LX: This is the least expensive way into the CR-V, but it comes with the smallest 5-inch screen and the most basic feature set. It makes sense only if you want the lowest entry price and can live without the nicer convenience and tech upgrades.
- EX: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, blind-spot monitoring, heated seats, a moonroof, keyless entry, and a better audio system.
- EX-L: This trim is the right pick if you want a more upscale cabin, since it adds leather upholstery, a power-adjustable front passenger seat, a power tailgate, and a Homelink garage door opener.
- Touring: This is the top trim and adds the most equipment, including navigation, a wireless phone charger, heated steering wheel, ambient lighting, and LED headlights. It is the most complete version, but the added cost makes it harder to justify unless you want the extra features.
Blind-spot monitoring and cross-traffic monitoring are standard only on EX trims and above.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Honda CR-V?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and enough deal activity to reward patience.
- Deal availability: 33.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,263 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.99% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 69.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $22,329, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Honda CR-V's resale value?
The current average of $23,000 sits slightly below last year's $24,209.
That softer pricing suggests the CR-V is still in demand, but buyers have a bit more leverage than they did a year ago. For a future seller, that means condition, mileage, and trim equipment will matter even more when it comes time to list the vehicle. Well-kept examples with desirable features should hold up better than rougher ones, especially if they have a clean history and strong service records.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Honda CR-V safe?
The 2020 Honda CR-V earned five-star ratings from NHTSA overall, with five-star ratings in the frontal crash test and side crash test, and a four-star rating in the rollover test. It also earned a Top Safety Pick designation from IIHS.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda Sensing is standard and includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, road-departure mitigation, and adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist. Automatic high beams are also standard, while blind-spot monitoring and cross-traffic monitoring are limited to EX trims and above. The main caveat is that IIHS noted Marginal headlight performance on trims below Touring, so the Touring’s LED headlights are the safer choice for nighttime visibility.
Should I buy a 2020 Honda CR-V or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 33.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 69% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.99% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- This year adds engine and safety upgrades that improve fuel economy and value.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $20,821, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $23,000 average.
- It is refined, roomy, and historically reliable.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $24,383, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $23,000 average.
- It offers plenty of cargo space and standard advanced safety features.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, safety, and efficiency, the 2020 is the smart middle ground. If your budget is tighter, the 2019 can save you money, while the 2021 makes sense if you want to spend more for a newer model-year alternative.
