CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Honda CR-V
overall

Summary
With 331 currently listed for sale near Washington, DC and an average price of $23,703, 39.0% of 2020 Honda CR-Vs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Honda CR-V 4.6 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2020 Honda CR-V stands out as a polished compact SUV that has been refined over a long run, with more than five million CR-Vs sold. By this point, Honda’s bestseller had settled into a comfortable and capable crossover package, and this year’s model adds engine and safety upgrades that improve fuel economy and strengthen its value. It also earns praise for great handling and fuel efficiency, two traits that help it feel easy to live with in everyday driving.
At the same time, the 2020 Honda CR-V is not trying to be flashy, and that restraint can be part of its appeal. The main drawbacks noted are outdated technology and interior materials that feel cheap, so buyers looking for a more upscale cabin or the latest tech may find it less compelling. Even so, its broad appeal comes from doing the basics well: it is practical, efficient, and generally satisfying for shoppers who want a straightforward compact SUV.

This is our second CR-V. Love it! It is just the right size with some cargo room. Really like sitting higher than I do in our sedan. Of course I am a huge fan of the heated seats and remote start here in Northeast Ohio. Good on gas. Looking forward to many years and miles with this car.

I cant think of one thing to improve this car. It is so roomy for a midsize SUV and the features are excellent even on the base trim package. I love my new 2020 Honda CR-V!

How much does the 2020 Honda CR-V cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $22,994 |
| Year-Round Low | $22,334.94 |
| Year-Round High | $24,253.97 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $24,256 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −5.20% |
Prices have softened 5.20% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 4,217 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $22,334.94, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2020 Honda CR-V a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Honda CR-V earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating.
The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Form and function, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its spaciousness, excellent features, and strong performance. They also highlight the advanced technology and safety features offered at a fair price, while some mention the desire for more options such as parking sensors and built-in navigation.
That lines up with the overview: you get a practical compact SUV that emphasizes everyday usability, efficiency, and broad appeal rather than flash. The trade-off is that its outdated technology and cheaper-feeling interior materials may matter if you want a more upscale cabin experience.
With 32.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2020 Honda CR-V reliable?
Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner summary points to a vehicle that feels dependable, with buyers repeatedly calling out its strong overall satisfaction and fair-value ownership experience. That kind of feedback suggests you can count on it for everyday use if it has been maintained well.
The expert evaluation also reinforces that impression by describing the CR-V as a long-running, comfortable, capable crossover that has had its wrinkles smoothed out over time. Honda’s simplified 2020 lineup and improved engine setup also support the sense that this is a mature, well-sorted design.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the basic formula and more about finding a well-kept example with the right equipment and service history.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Honda CR-V?
At 68.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, lighting, and safety equipment. Because some trims have different feature sets, it also helps to confirm that the specific car you’re considering has the equipment you expect. Focus on overall condition, not just mileage, since the cabin materials and technology can vary in appeal depending on trim.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The LX is the most basic version, with a 5-inch screen, Bluetooth, and Pandora compatibility, while higher trims add a 7-inch touchscreen, leather on upper trims, a moonroof on all but LX, and roof rails only on Touring.
- Powertrain: The lineup uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 190 horsepower and 179 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT; front-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is available.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, road-departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist, and automatic high beams; blind-spot monitoring and cross-traffic monitoring are added on EX and above.
- Infotainment: The LX gets a 5-inch screen, while higher trims use a 7-inch touchscreen; Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available only with the larger screen, and Touring adds navigation plus wireless phone charging.
- Fuel efficiency: Front-wheel-drive models are rated at 30 miles per gallon combined, while all-wheel-drive models are rated at 29.
Which 2020 Honda CR-V trim should I buy?
The 2020 Honda CR-V is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, and Touring.
Here's the short version:
- LX: This is the least expensive way into the CR-V, but it is also the most stripped-down. You get the standard safety suite and the basic 5-inch infotainment screen, yet the smaller display and limited connectivity make it the least appealing choice if you plan to keep the car for a while.
- EX: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers. It adds the larger 7-inch touchscreen, smartphone integration, blind-spot monitoring, heated seats, a moonroof, keyless entry, a better audio system, and cosmetic upgrades that make daily use feel more complete.
- EX-L: This trim is for you if you want a more upscale cabin without jumping all the way to Touring. It mainly adds leather upholstery, plus a power-adjustable front passenger seat, a power tailgate, and a built-in garage door opener.
- Touring: This is the top trim, with navigation, a wireless phone charger, heated steering wheel, ambient lighting, and LED headlights. It makes the most sense if you want the most equipment and value the lighting upgrade, but it is the least compelling step up on pure dollars-and-features.
The safety package is standard across the lineup, but blind-spot monitoring and cross-traffic monitoring are not included on LX.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Honda CR-V?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.
- Deal availability: 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,217 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.20% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 68.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $22,334.94, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Honda CR-V's resale value?
The current average of $22,994 sits slightly below last year's $24,256.
That softer pricing can help you buy more confidently now, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays soft. If you plan to sell later, the best protection is choosing a well-equipped trim in strong condition and keeping service records organized.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Honda CR-V safe?
The 2020 Honda CR-V earned five-star ratings from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in the frontal crash test, five-star ratings in the side crash test, and four-star ratings in the rollover test. IIHS also named it a Top Safety Pick, with caveats for trims below Touring because their halogen headlights scored only Marginal.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda Sensing is standard and includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, road-departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring and cross-traffic monitoring are standard only on EX and above.
The main safety shortcoming is the headlight performance on lower trims, so if nighttime visibility matters to you, the Touring’s LED headlights are worth considering.
Should I buy a 2020 Honda CR-V or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 68.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.20% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- This year brings engine and safety upgrades that improve fuel economy and value.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $20,854, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $22,994 average.
- It is refined, roomy, and historically reliable.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $24,285, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $22,994 average.
- It emphasizes cargo space, standard safety features, and strong value.
The bottom line: The 2020 is the right pick if you want the improved engine and safety setup at a softer price than newer models. If you are especially price-sensitive, the 2019 is the better value play, while the 2021 makes sense if you want to spend more for a newer-year alternative.
