How do I get a manual transmission out of reverse

If the linkage is intact and it doesn't shift under normal conditions it may be seized up

As the shifter is a direct connection to the gear box it is most likely worn so bad that bushings and fork no longer line up. The transmission needs either an overhaul or replaced. However it is a very old truck so it might not be worth overhauling, so if you still want it then used parts with a warranty might be the best option.
