2014 elantra turn signal

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Driver side turn signal started blinking fast. I
changed the front turn signal bulb, and it still
blinked fast. Took the bulb out and just
reseated it, and it was working fine. Get up
this morning and its blinking fast again just
on the drivers side. All bulbs are working, its
just still doing the fast flashing.  Flashers
work. What should I do next?

Flip it upside down if possible, i had a new bulb do the same thing. It was a dual filament bulb and my suspicion is that the one filament was sagging and touching the other, once i flipped it the problem was gone

I have reseated, changed bulb, messed with the contacts, and the fast flashing goes away for a bit but comes right back. Flashers work. All other turn signals work. I'm at a loss for what do do next. Help!

I am having the same issue. Did you ever find out what the problem was?

Yes! It was a little tab on the SIDE of the headlight bulb holder that needed to be gently pried out a very tiny bit. The red arrow points to the area on the bulb holder where the tabs are. I couldn't find a better pic.

Did that take care of the problem for good? My daughter’s is doing the same thing.

No. Just a gentle slight tug to pull the tab out a smidge. I posted this question a year ago and I haven't had any problems since. Good luck!

For posterity's sake the tab is INSIDE the blinker housing where the bulb gets inserted to, not on the outside. The picture JennGuru87 was great but I was looking for something on the outside of the housing, not the inside...then I finally found it. :) I just pried it slightly out so that the tab pushes more firmly against the bulb when inserted and my blinker issues went away. That was frustrating me so much, so thank you for such an easy fix! About a year ago a squirrel chewed through my wiring in several places so I had to patch it up myself and I was starting to think I needed to redo the wiring. Thank you!

For the record, there are 6 tabs, 3 inside where the bulb seats and 3 around the outside of the bulb holder. I gently lifted all 6 tabs and it seems to have fixed the issue of fast blink on left turns. Have not road tested yet.

Lightly bending the tabs out is the answer to this problem. However, the problem may come back as heat cycling of the socket contacts from the bulb can eventually cause the connection to go into a high resistance value and simulate a bulb outage (hyper-flash). If the problem persists the socket should be replaced.

I tried replacing the socket but it didn't work. I will try bending the tabs out.

I have the same problem on both sides of my 2014 Elantra. Hyundai said headlight assemblies need to be replaced at over $1000. Bunch of crooks. This is a systemic problem with their manufacturing. I'm going to try a home repair otherwise I may need to get some after market replacements. Going back to Toyotas after this.

I sold this car over the summer (21) and never had any more problems.
