How do I fix check engine light on 05 Honda Civic?

Asked by Dunn509 Jun 24, 2020 at 03:36 AM about the 2005 Honda Civic

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2005 Honda Civic 1.7L & I was driving the the highway & got off the exit. When I went to give it gas, it
suddenly went into limbo mode. It starting running bad, like it didn't want to go. I drove it on home, barely getting
2000rpm's, it wouldn't go over 20mph.  I replaced the tps sensor & when I start it, it runs fine for a few seconds, the
battery lights blinks & goes out when the car dies. U can hear a clicking sound along with the blinks & when it dies,
the check engine light comes on & stays on. It won't stay running now, it keeps dying but runs better while it is
running. What do I do?! Please help!!!

Since the light is on, you scan for the OBDii trouble codes. they are stored in the cars system and the codes will help you find the issue. An auto parts store can do this for you. Post the 4 digit codes back here for further help. Just because a sensor is detecting a problem, doesn't mean the sensor needs replacing. So just don't swap parts until you research it some is what I am saying.

Does it take a certain scanner tool? I've tried 2 different ones & it won't read.
