i have an 87 towncar, it wont shift past 2nd gear, i am a mechanic and i cant figure it out, any other mechanics got advice? it seems to be a common problem in the 80's lincolns and crown vics and grand marqis i have seen after looking into it a little.

If there is a metal link between the throttle and trans., you may need a small rebuild. I can't remember what the link is called, but the trans. will heat up without the link working properly.
