Asked by Roughit Nov 22, 2019 at 10:51 PM about the 2003 Lincoln Town Car Executive

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

03 towncar executive w/65,000 miles.  2nd owner.  does not get used much(duh).  starts & runs fine at highway speeds.  local driving is where it breaks up as i'm giving it gas at speeds in the thirtry/forty mph.  i feather the peddle until i can get to a higher speed and if possible put on cruise control.

thanks ed. messed around with the car today. borrowed a pocket scanner that came up with code 0308(cyl. 8 misfire) and code 0316(misfire detected 1st 1000 revs.) also i now have the check engine soon warning light on. 0308 i believe i can handle. 0316 i might be able to handle just as soon as i figure out what they mean. thanks again ed.

It likely needs sparkplugs and a couple of ignition coils.

Don't throw parts at it cause that will be expensive. There are other things it can be. We just listed the most likely.

ok bob, gotcha. looking thru the receipts, i don't see anything for new plugs. so i'm assuming i've got original plugs. not sure if that's ok to have the original plugs because the car has such low mileage. or not ok because the plugs could be 17 years old. so i'm leaning towards all new plugs. same with the fuel filter. i'm gonna take your advise and hold off on the coils.

i sent a nice long thank you and explanation of what i did to fix the 03 lincoln. hit send and my laptop decided to take a dinner break. after throwing said laptop thru cynder block wall, here's a quickie response. thank you ed and bob. i am back on the road. life is good. will try again with the plugs and filter info. i'm gonna hit send. thank you very much.
