Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Is there anyone out there that can? A few months back, I posted “I have a
2000 Dodge Durango and the driver's door had frozen shut HOW DO I
TURN OFF THE ANTI-THEFT THING?” I poured hot water on the door then,
as I got it open, the alarm went off. I was unable to figure out how to turn it
off. Even after doing a long list of what others had instructed for me to do,
nothing fixed it. It wasn’t until a neighbor had found the switch/connector
inside the door that disarms the alarm, it has a green/orange wire and a
black wire. That connects to the back of the lock, where the key goes. He
disconnected the plug from behind the keylock, cut the plug off and basically
hotwired it by connecting the 2 wires together. that fixed it. So, now, at the
present time, the alarm is going off again, but under different circumstances.
It all started when I was driving down the road hit a bump and the rear 3rd
break light/molding had fallen, dropped down about halfway. I drove home
and decided to fix it the next time I drive it. So, a few days later, I went
directly to the trunk lid, knowing that it was unlocked, I opened the lid, and
the alarm went off, again. I have been trying to fix it for more than a month.
The last thing that I tried was to do the same thing to the trunk lid
switch/connector wire thing as was done to the driver's door. That didn’t fix it.
Im out of ideas, Isnt there anyway that I can just turn that doggone "antitheft"
thing off, forever? A way to disengage it, hotwire it, disconnect it, cut some
wires, jerry rig it? blow it up? Kill it? That would be ideal for me..I hate it! I
don’t want it or need it. I haven't found a mechanic that can figure it out. This
is without a doubt a problem that will take a very experienced “technician” to
fix. Not just a mechanic. I am a single 59-year-old female on ssi and can't
afford what I fear that it would cost to have it fixed. I cannot express how
important it is for me to fix this, I have been stranded for a long time, I have
some money but not enough to have it towed to the dodge dealers for them
to fix. No doubt it would probably cost more than the car itself. At this point,
Im desperate for a solution that is within my means. Thank you to anyone
who will try.

Personally I'd start shopping for a newer vehicle that's within your budget. This one is 23 years old and has electrical problems! The other problem you're going to run into is nobody is going to know how to fix it, even at the Dealer. There's a very good chance that the so called "tech" will not be as old as the vehicle! After wasting $700 at my local GM Dealer I learned that lesson myself! I wound up fixing the security system on my '94 Fleetwood myself! I got a factory shop manual, studied the system, and diagnosed it. I would suggest rechecking the wires that were worked on before. Maybe hitting the bump jarred them loose! Good luck to you!! Jim

You're welcome. Glad to help! I hope that revisiting the previous repair fixes it again! Jim

I am still trying to fix my car, but not from "under the hood" but from behind this computer screen. So at this point, I have figure that the first thing that I need to do is to replace the wiring that was hotwired from behind the drivers door & the trunk. I am looking for a junkyard that has them. Than after getting them, I figure that I need to find a mobile automotive electrician mechanic/technician. Where I can find one?? I have no clue!! haven't yet.. any suggestions from anyone??? I would love to hear.
