2003 Dodge Durango running hot but the coolant is full,
my 2003 Dodge Durango gage is reading hot but the coolant is full, why is
this? there is a small leak of some sort but my radiator is less than 2yrs old.
If the leak is the water pump it could also be what we call sucking air so it will not flow coolant properly, also have seen the impellers corrode away also causing a no flow condition. This assuming that the thermostat is opening fully and there are no restrictions inside the engine block.
Can a closed thermostat cause the engine coolant to back up and flow out of the overflow?
Yes it can, but the temp gauge should show it getting hot at the same time. It is also a symptom of a blown head gasket, restricted cooling system and a coolant flow problem through the water pump.
