Engine stalls when put into gear

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello,

I recently built a 1990 Ford Mustang 302 5.0
engine. I had the block milled, decked, and bored
.020". I built a top end kit through Erson/PBM and
purchased pistons, etc.  I have aluminum heads,
hydraulic roller cam, 112° lobe, hydraulic lifters and
push rods, and roller rocker arms. I built the engine
with each part being meticulously purchased and
installed to work as a unit. I have a crate
transmission, Street Fighter C4 Auto from TCI and
a new High Stall Torque Converter. I have a new
Holley 600cfm Carb with electric choke.
My problems are: when I start the truck, it idles at
2000 rpm, but if I reduce that it will die. Also if I
stay at the 2000 rpm and put the vehicle into gear,
it drops the rpm down to 1000 and if I give it gas it
will die. But, if I have the engine in the first gear, I
can drive it and give it gas.
I have used the specs off the cam and advanced
the timing gear 4°. I have fresh plug wires, fresh
spark plugs, and a new HEI distributor.

Double check for vacuum leaks. And double check compression across the cylinders, but it sounds like you have a vacuum leak somewhere
