The very sporty Civic Si Coupe is by far the raciest Civic ever. The two-door is built to perform yet still be practical, and that could be called the best of both worlds.
What we're talking about is a 197-horsepower I4 paired with a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission (there is no automatic available). Honda says that the Si's top speed is 145 mph, but reviews say it is weak when it comes to torque (139 lb.-ft.). You probably won't complain about fuel economy, as it's rated at 22 mpg in the city and 31 on the highway.
The list of standard equipment is impressive. It includes ABS with Electronic Brake Distribution, speed-sensitive power steering, an independent front suspension with MacPherson struts, an independent, double-wishbone suspension, a helical limited-slip differential, and 17-inch wheels. The relatively low-slung car handles very well on its standard 17-inch wheels (an upgrade to 18 inches is available). The exterior is accented by a rear wing spoiler and bright-finished exhaust, while the interior presents a sporty atmosphere with deeply bolstered cloth seats stitched in red and red back-lighting on the instrument panel.
The safety factor was certainly not overlooked, as the Si Coupe has it all, from all types of airbags (dual-stage fronts, front sides, and side-curtains) to active head restraints. The driver's seat includes a height adjustment for the most comfortable and safe positioning.
Other goodies that are included are a 350-watt audio system with 7 speakers (including a subwoofer) that is ready for XM Satellite Radio. The Si also comes with power locks and windows. It comes in 7 exterior colors, all with black interior. Available options are a navigation system and summer-specific tires.
