The Grand Caravan Cargo Van did exactly as it name said -- it hauled cargo. More utilitarian than a family car, it sat two in only one row of seating (as opposed to seven in three rows in other Grand Caravans). In 1991, the standard engine was upped to a 3.3-liter, 150-hp V6, which suited the van's heavy load requirements. The turbo version of the Cargo Van was dropped.
Also new in 1991 was a driver's front airbag. Other standard features were power brakes and steering, tinted windows, and bucket seats. Optional air conditioning and power windows and locks were available. But this van wasn't aimed at luxury so much as utilitarian power.

New for 1991 in all Dodge Grand Caravans was an AWD option along with the standard 2WD. The AWD Cargo Van included 15-inch wheels, tinted windows, bucket seats, and power brakes and steering. The AWD, coupled with the 4-speed automatic overdrive provided enough power and stability to handle rough road and weather conditions.
With 160-cubic feet of cargo room, thanks to only one row of seating, the 1991 AWD Cargo Van was a dependable work vehicle rather than a family car. The biggest complaint from drivers was the persistent transmission headaches.

The Grand Caravan SE comes standard with a 3.3-liter, 150-hp V6, paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Unlike the Cargo Van, it is a family car in that it seats seven in three rows comfortably, with plenty of front legroom. Rear seats can be removed with some difficulty because of their bulk.
In 1991, extra standard features include driver's front airbag and power side mirrors, in addition to the already standard power steering and brakes, 15-inch wheels, and tinted windows.
Interior room and comfort as well as the powerful engine are praised by owners, but peeling paint and transmission failure is a drawback.

The Dodge Grand Caravan SE AWD is a great vehicle choice for cargo, human or othrwise. Housing a 3.3-liter, 150-hp V6 engine that's paired with the 4-speed Ultradrive transmission, this minivan can haul a full day's worth of shopping at Home Depot as well as your child's soccer buddies.
Like the regular Grand Caravan SE, it comes standard with a driver's front airbag, power exterior mirror, power steering and brakes, three rows of seats, and tinted windows. Options include a cassette player, and power windows and locks. Many drivers feel the constant repairs overshadow the interior comfort and car-like handling of the Grand Caravan.

A 3.3-liter, 150-hp V6 engine comes standard in the LE, as it does across the entire Grand Caravan line. Extra features that come standard with the LE include air conditioning, wood interior trim, tilt steering wheel, power heated mirrors, power locks, an overhead console, and a clock. Standard in all Grand Caravan models is a driver's front airbag and power brakes and steering. Quad Command seating was introduced in 1991, to configure the seating in the first two rows for maximum seating and storage capacity.
Drivers say the 1991 Grand Caravan LE gets good mileage for a car of its size, offers a smooth ride, handles well, and has lots of useful cargo space. Things to watch out for include peeling paint and transmission problems.

The top of the line LE model of the 1991 3-door Dodge Grand Caravan is available in AWD this year, for those who need to take their minivans beyond the mall or grocery store and out into the hinterlands. Like the regulard LE, it gets a lot of power from its 3.3-liter, 150-hp V6 engine paired with the Ultradrive 4-speed automatic transmission.
The LE AWD offers more standard amenities than the SE AWD, including power heated mirrors, faux wood interior accents, tilt steering wheel, and power locks. Air conditioning is also standard on the LE, as compared to the SE. Power windows are optional.
