Dodge created the minivan segment more than three decades ago with the Caravan, which entered the market in 1984. Through five generations, the Grand Caravan has grown in size and comfort. The Grand Caravan has soldiered on largely unchanged since 2008, all the way up to the 2019 model year.
The Grand Caravan features sliding doors on both sides, a rear hatch, and three rows. Buyers can opt for second- and third-row benches, with room for eight, or second-row captain's chairs, bringing seating capacity down to seven.
With the rear seats folded, the Dodge Grand Caravan has 140.3 cubic feet of cargo space. This short of the Honda Odyssey (144.9) and Toyota Sienna (150). With the third row folded, the Grand Caravan has 78.9 cubic feet. With all seats up, it has 31.1 cubic feet.
The Grand Caravan is rife with family-friendly features, including an overhead driver’s console with toggles to control the sliding doors and the rear hatch. The Grand Caravan also features a helpful observation mirror for the driver and front passenger. This wide-angle mirror allows the parents to keep an eye on the kids without turning all the way around.
Trims for the Dodge Grand Caravan include SE, SE Plus, and SXT. The SE comes standard with a dark insert grille, dark-capped power heated side mirrors, quad-halogen headlights, manual sliding doors on either side, and 17-inch steel wheels. It also comes standard with remote keyless entry and the 6.5-touchscreen radio system.
The SE comes with features that cater to the whole family, including three-zone manual temperature control, easy-clean floor mats, and the Stow ’n’ Go third-row bench seat. The available second row captain’s chairs have fold-flat seat backs with hard plastic. This allows them to turn into tables for third-row passengers.
Moving up to the SE Plus, adds the Blacktop Appearance Package. It comes with 17-inch aluminum wheels, fog lights, gloss black grille, and headlight bezels. Inside, it comes with an all-black headliner and seats, as well as black door insert panels with silver accents. You also get a leather shift knob, Uconnect voice controls, and SiriusXM satellite radio.
The range-topping SXT trim comes standard with power sliding doors, automatic headlights, bright-finish roof rack, remote start, additional storage console, and an 8-way power driver’s seat.
The SXT is available with the Driver’s Convenience Group. It features three-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, a second-row overhead console, and second-row window shades. Tech features include a rear-seat DVD entertainment system with wireless headphones, as well as multiple USB ports and a wall-style power outlet.
A 3.6-liter V6 engine making 283 horsepower and 260 pound feet of torque powers the Grand Caravan. Power is sent to the front wheels through a 6-speed automatic transmission. The transmission is operated via a dash-mounted shifter, placed up near the navigation screen. When properly equipped, the Grand Caravan can tow up to 3,600 pounds. The Grand Caravan features trailer-sway control.
Fuel economy for the Dodge Grand Caravan is 17 mpg city, 25 highway, 20 combined.
Standard safety features on the 2019 Grand Caravan include a second-row child-seat anchoring system, tire-pressure monitoring system, electronic stability control, a reversing camera, and a full array of front- and side-impact airbags. Unfortunately, the Grand Caravan is not available with many modern driver-assistance features.
The Grand Caravan may be long in the tooth, but it has the cargo space, passenger capacity, and family-friendly features that every minivan needs. It also is the least expensive minivan on the market, ensuring there will still be an option for families on a budget.

great car perfect for camping due to the stow and go however, the engine can only handle 1500 pounds of weight. its only designed to pull around a family where 2 people are probably children. engine only lasts 200k miles due to this but I still just got a new engine to keep using it! Feb 10, 2024

Dependable with few bells and whistles to break down. Good for basic transport of multiple people. Versatile. It lowered my auto insurance bill as an additional perk. This van is replacing one just like it that was totaled in an accident. If it is as described, and I expect it to be, we thoroughly enjoyed the first one and expect to enjoy this one! As the reviews say, the best thing about a Grand Caravan is the price. It is literally only 60% of a Honda or Toyota and they often have more miles. The Caravan’s stow and go seats are terrific, the room inside is fantastic. Can tow 4,000 pounds with a 400 pound tongue weight. Better than some pickups. Apr 21, 2021

I had a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan for 11 years and put 221,000 miles on it. Never had a problem with the transmission or engine, and only expected problems with hoses, belts, etc. In view of this I decided to find a similar model, and found a used 2019 model with relatively low mileage. The new features (bluetooth radio, backup camera, passenger seats that can be stored in the floor instead of removed, mileage monitor, etc) impressed me very much. Considering the price point, this was an excellent deal. Other models comparatively equipped with similar year and mileage were several thousand $ more. Personally, I think the Grand Caravan has a more masculine look about it [although you are limited on looking cool in a minivan]. I owned a previous model year of the Grand Caravan with over 100K and had absolutely no issues with it, so I hope for the same with this one.Jan 12, 2021

Inside looks fine. A few bells and whistles but overall nothing fancy and a little cheap looking. Outside is boring. Could be why its discontinued. Try the more expensive Pacifica if you really need the stow and go seats, otherwise the Kia and Honda are better.Dec 02, 2020

It was a great deal for the price and low mileage. Compared to the Rouge that didnt has as much room and was more expensive as was the Chey Trax. I loved all the features. I would have liked to have the navigation but I have Google. Also, I am used to a total remote starter. This one you can only start the heater from the inside. Ended up renting the SXT when my jeep patriot was in the shop. Absolutely fell in love with it it’s a very smooth ride and extremely spacious. Expected a used one with low miles to be over 20,000, was pleasantly surprised when I was able to pick up the GT for only 15,000! I don’t think I will ever go back to a regular car or small SUV again. This thing is so smooth, great on gas and has A ton of power! I just got my 2019 Grand Caravan and a few times now when I hit the button, on car or key fob, the gate starts to descend but seems to hit a snag about 6 inches down which causes it to reverse and stay open. When this has happened I have had to manually lower the door and overcome substantial resistance doing so. Once I have closed the door, it behaves normally again, until the next time it misbehaves. DOes anyone have any information to share?

Can the TPS computer be reset from 5 tire to 4 tire?
AT 36K plus, after a new tire install, my TPS light activated by blinking for about 30 seconds and then remaining on. The shop informed me the system was looking for the spare, and reset the light, but several days later, the light is back with the same blink/on indication. This van came factory without a spare, and the light never came on because of the spare before. Any insights?
