Reviews SummaryMercedes’ handsome compact SUV continues into the 2025 model year with a few revisions and a new plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) variant. With just two powertrain options and a simplified array of trims, the GLC shows us that a simple-yet-measured approach makes it a strong candidate up against compact luxury SUVs from Audi, BMW, Genesis, Lexus, Porsche, and Volvo. Verdict: The 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLC-class is a handsome and compelling new car fit for most duties.
Reviews SummaryAutomakers have traditionally had a hard time making money on entry-level subcompact cars, because they have low profit margins, but America has largely moved away from cars to crossover SUVs—and higher prices. That allows car companies to offer an entry-level subcompact SUV for thousands more than a similar sedan or hatchback. Such is the case with the Hyundai Venue, which costs more than its predecessor, the subcompact Accent that was dropped after the 2022 model year. While the price is higher, the advantage for buyers is a vehicle that generally has more cargo space and is more practical. We recently drove the 2026 Hyundai Venue SEL w/2-Tone Roof (yes, that’s the trim level name) to find out if a subcompact crossover is a better buy than a cheaper subcompact car. Verdict: The Hyundai Venue sacrifices refinement for a price point that isn’t as low as a comparable subcompact car. We’d be tempted to spend a little more for a slightly larger compact car with more power, features, and refinement.

The 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLC adhered closely to Mercedes’ contemporary design ethos, presenting a visually appealing option in the compact crossover segment. Its taut lines contributed to a muscular and streamlined appearance, flowing seamlessly from the iconic Mercedes star-pattern grille to the standard LED headlights. The vehicle's taller, upright cabin and short overhangs suggested a multi-terrain capability, particularly in models without the AMG Line, which featured unpainted wheel arch liners. The GLC's crisp headlights and intricately detailed tail lights ensured a modern look that would remain fresh for years. The optional 20-inch AMG five-spoke wheels enhanced its athletic stance. Inside, the GLC exuded luxury with beautifully designed, contrasting-leather-adorned interior door panels and premium materials. The GLC 350e PHEV model featured supple white leather seats with heating and ventilation options, offering excellent adjustability and a commanding view of the road. The interior was further enhanced by a haptic steering wheel, climate controls, faux carbon fiber, satin-stitched leather, and painted aluminum trim accents.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue, classified as a crossover SUV, resembled a tall hatchback more than a traditional SUV. Its design leaned more towards a crossover, with a small and narrow appearance reminiscent of European runabouts. The upright windshield and SUV-like cues, such as the bluff nose and standard roof rails, contributed to its crossover identity. The Venue's high nose was complemented by lower headlights and high-set daytime running lights, while a satin metallic lower fascia housed the lower air intake. Black wheel flares around the 15- or 17-inch wheels and a two-tone roof option added flair. Inside, the Venue's design was simple and functional, featuring a digital instrument cluster and a small touchscreen resembling an iPad on the dash. Body-color trim around the air vents and shifter brought some exterior elements inside.

The 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLC offered a range of powertrains, including the GLC 300 with rear-wheel drive or 4Matic all-wheel drive, and the GLC 350e 4Matic plug-in hybrid. All models were powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The GLC 300 produced 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, while the 350e delivered 201 hp and 236 lb-ft. The GLC 300 featured a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, adding 23 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque, achieving a 0-60 mph time of 6.2 seconds. The 350e's hybrid system included a 23.3-kilowatt-hour battery and an electric motor, resulting in a combined output of 313 hp and 406 lb-ft. Despite its weight, the 350e matched the 300's 0-60 time. The GLC excelled in urban and highway driving, with ample torque for quick acceleration and passing. Its ride quality, steering, and handling were commendable, offering a solid and composed experience. The GLC's braking performance was adequate, with regenerative braking enhancing its 54-mile electric range. In Hybrid mode, it prioritized electricity, with a detent in the gas pedal indicating when the engine would engage.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue, powered by a naturally aspirated 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, produced 121 horsepower and 113 pound-feet of torque. The power was delivered through a continuously variable transmission (CVT) to the front wheels. The Venue's 0-60 mph time ranged from 8.5 to 8.8 seconds, aided by its lightweight 2,738-pound frame. While peppy in city traffic, the Venue struggled at highway speeds, with the CVT slow to downshift for more power. The transmission's stepped gear ratios felt slurred, and heavy throttle caused engine droning due to limited sound deadening. Sport mode increased noise levels but made power more accessible. The Venue's small size and low weight contributed to agile handling, with stable and direct steering. However, its 6.7 inches of ground clearance resulted in some lean in corners, and the ride was jiggly on uneven surfaces due to the solid rear axle.
The 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLC offered a commanding view of the road, with ample hip, shoulder, and legroom for front passengers, even for taller individuals. However, rear-seat leg and headroom were limited, prioritizing cargo space within the compact crossover segment. The front seats featured a clever design with a curve to maximize rear legroom. The GLC provided 21.9 cubic feet of cargo space, expandable to 52.6 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. Despite smaller dimensions compared to competitors, the GLC's practicality was evident, accommodating luggage and everyday items with ease. The split rear seat folded instantly, allowing for the transport of larger items like an XL-sized road bike. The GLC's hybridization contributed to an average fuel economy of 29.3 miles per gallon over 273 miles of mixed driving. The 350e's EPA fuel economy was estimated at 23 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined in hybrid mode, with 60 MPGe city, 70 MPGe highway, and 64 MPGe combined in all-electric mode. The 4Matic-equipped, mild-hybrid 300 achieved an EPA-rated 23 mpg city, 31 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue featured cloth and H-Tex seats with black upholstery and white contrast stitching, offering a sporty appearance. The seats were comfortable, with six-way manual adjustments for a natural driving position. Seat heating was available in SEL models. While headroom was ample, legroom was limited for taller individuals in the front seat. The rear seat accommodated average-sized adults, but taller passengers faced legroom challenges. The rear seat could fit two adults comfortably, but three would be cramped. The rear seat bottoms were high enough for comfort on long trips, but there was no fold-down armrest. SEL models included USB-C ports for phone charging. The Venue's cargo space was modest, with 31.9 cubic feet available with the rear seats folded and 18.7 cubic feet with them up. The rear cargo floor lifted to access the compact spare tire, revealing cost-cutting measures like the lack of sound deadening. The Venue's interior featured hard black plastic throughout, with limited soft-touch surfaces.
The 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLC featured the third-generation MBUX infotainment system, with haptic controls for steering wheel, climate, and infotainment functions. The 11.9-inch touchscreen required precise swipe intensity for navigation, with occasional sluggish response. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth connected seamlessly, and the screen resolution was excellent. The Burmester 3D surround sound system, part of the Exclusive Trim package, provided top-notch audio quality. Ambient lighting customization added to the driving experience.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue came with an 8-inch touchscreen for basic infotainment features. While small by modern standards, it was functional, with large icons and quick response. It offered phone, radio, media, and phone-projection connections, along with voice memos and settings controls. Navigation, Wi-Fi hotspot, and SiriusXM satellite radio were absent, but wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were included. The digital instrument cluster displayed limited information and was not programmable. The Venue's audio system was a simple six-speaker unit, with no premium option available.
The 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLC included standard safety features like blind-spot monitoring, active parking assistance, automatic high beams, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and active braking assistance. The optional Driver Assistance Package added adaptive cruise control, steering assist, lane-change assist, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, evasive maneuvering, and speed limit assist. These systems worked harmoniously, providing a smooth driving experience, especially in stop-and-go traffic.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue offered a good set of standard safety features, including forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, driver-attention monitor, and rear-occupant warning. Blind-spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alert were available on all but the base SE. However, adaptive cruise control was not offered. The Venue's safety systems performed well, though the driver attention monitor was overly sensitive. The Venue received a four-star safety rating from the NHTSA, with some IIHS ratings pending. Its headlights received "Acceptable" or "Marginal" ratings, depending on the trim.
