Reviews SummaryIn our recent testing, no vehicle has outperformed its prior generation like the Nissan Armada. Gutted and redone for the 2025 model year, the Armada brings power, towing capacity, premium materials, and luxury-grade driving dynamics at a reasonable price. For 2026, Nissan made a NISMO version as a trial run for its planned lineup of performance trucks. Slammed on air springs and painted like the Z sports car, this is yet another Armada trim that goes further than Toyota, Chevrolet, GMC, and Jeep are willing to for $80,000. Verdict: The Armada offers a surprising level of quality, choice, and driving enjoyment that puts it ahead of the competition.
Reviews SummaryAutomakers have traditionally had a hard time making money on entry-level subcompact cars, because they have low profit margins, but America has largely moved away from cars to crossover SUVs—and higher prices. That allows car companies to offer an entry-level subcompact SUV for thousands more than a similar sedan or hatchback. Such is the case with the Hyundai Venue, which costs more than its predecessor, the subcompact Accent that was dropped after the 2022 model year. While the price is higher, the advantage for buyers is a vehicle that generally has more cargo space and is more practical. We recently drove the 2026 Hyundai Venue SEL w/2-Tone Roof (yes, that’s the trim level name) to find out if a subcompact crossover is a better buy than a cheaper subcompact car. Verdict: The Hyundai Venue sacrifices refinement for a price point that isn’t as low as a comparable subcompact car. We’d be tempted to spend a little more for a slightly larger compact car with more power, features, and refinement.

The 2026 Nissan Armada was a striking departure from the typical bulky SUV aesthetic, incorporating a sportier look reminiscent of Nissan's crossovers. Despite its boxy shape with hard angles on the A-pillars and D-pillars, the Armada featured softer curves on the bumpers and fenders, creating a balanced surface contrast. The imposing double-bracketed running lights and wide chrome bars across the grille added to its commanding presence. Although it was a tall, XL-size vehicle, the Armada appeared more svelte compared to its American counterparts like the Ford Expedition and Chevrolet Tahoe. The NISMO version, with its Tokyo street style, was a unique and racy take on an SUV, featuring bright red accent lines and a lowered body. Inside, the Armada boasted a red and black theme with microsuede accents, metal pedal covers, and a NISMO tachometer, offering a high level of design and quality.
In contrast, the 2026 Hyundai Venue was classified as a crossover SUV but resembled a tall hatchback. It offered only front-wheel drive and had a ground clearance of 6.7 inches, making it less tall than typical crossovers. The Venue's design leaned more towards a crossover with its upright windshield, bluff nose, and standard roof rails. The high nose was complemented by lower headlights and high-set daytime running lights, while black wheel flares and a two-tone roof added flair. Inside, the Venue's look was simple and functional, with a digital instrument cluster and a small touchscreen that resembled an iPad. The interior featured body-color trim around the air vents and shifter, bringing some of the exterior feel inside.

The 2026 Nissan Armada was equipped with a powerful twin-turbocharged V6 engine, delivering 425 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, making it one of the most powerful in its class. The engine's smooth delivery and wide power band paired seamlessly with the nine-speed automatic transmission, providing quick and effortless performance. The NISMO variant boosted output to 460 hp with premium fuel, although the exhaust note remained subtle. The Armada's air suspension, available on select trims, offered excellent body control and a compliant ride, elevating its performance above competitors. The vehicle's towing capacity was 8,500 pounds, and it featured a part-time 4WD system with a low-range transfer case. Fuel economy was estimated at 16 mpg city, 19 mpg highway, and 17 mpg combined.
In contrast, the 2026 Hyundai Venue was powered by a modest 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, producing 121 horsepower and 113 pound-feet of torque. The power was channeled through a continuously variable transmission (CVT) to the front wheels, with no all-wheel drive option. The Venue's acceleration was slow, with a 0-60 mph time of 8.5–8.8 seconds, but its lightweight design made it feel peppy in city traffic. However, highway performance was less impressive, with the transmission slow to respond and the engine droning under heavy throttle. The Venue's handling benefited from its small size and low weight, making it easy to maneuver in tight spaces. The ride was generally comfortable, though the solid rear axle caused some jiggling on rough surfaces.
The 2026 Nissan Armada offered seating for seven or eight passengers, with captain's chairs standard on higher trims. Headroom was generous across all rows, but legroom in the second and third rows was less than that of longer American SUVs. The Armada's "Zero Gravity" cushioning provided exceptional comfort, especially when paired with the massaging front seats. Visibility was excellent, aided by 360-degree cameras and simple controls. Cargo capacity was substantial, with 20.4 cubic feet behind the third row, 56.3 cubic feet behind the second row, and 97.1 cubic feet with both rows folded.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue featured cloth and synthetic leather seats with manual adjustments, offering decent comfort and headroom. However, legroom was limited, especially for taller passengers. The rear seat could accommodate two adults comfortably, but three would be cramped. The Venue's cargo space was modest, with 31.9 cubic feet available with the rear seats folded and 18.7 cubic feet with them up. The rear cargo floor lifted to access a compact spare tire, revealing cost-cutting measures like the lack of sound deadening.
The 2026 Nissan Armada came standard with two 12.3-inch displays, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and SiriusXM with 360L satellite radio. Upgrading to the SL trim added features like Google Maps, Google Assistant, and Wi-Fi. Higher trims boasted a 12-speaker, 600-watt Klipsch stereo and additional USB ports. ProPilot Assist 2.2 with hands-free operation was optional on most trims, and a digital rearview mirror was available on higher trims. The Platinum and Pro-4X trims included a built-in dash cam and NissanConnect services for added security.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue featured a basic 8-inch touchscreen for infotainment, offering phone, radio, media, and phone-projection connections. While it lacked navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and SiriusXM satellite radio, it did include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The audio system was a simple six-speaker unit, with no premium option available. The digital instrument cluster displayed limited information and was not programmable.
The 2026 Nissan Armada came equipped with a comprehensive suite of driver-assistance features, including adaptive cruise control, driver-attention monitor, parking sensors, surround-view camera system, blind-spot monitors, lane-keep assist, and automatic emergency braking. While crash-test ratings were unavailable, the extensive list of safety features provided reassurance. The Armada also included a range of airbags, with an additional front far-side airbag on the Platinum Reserve.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue offered a good set of standard safety features, such as forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and a driver-attention monitor. Higher trims added blind-spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alert, but adaptive cruise control was not available. The Venue received a four-star safety rating from the NHTSA, with mixed ratings from the IIHS.
