Reviews Summary

Redesigned in 2024, the 2025 Traverse gets a few additional changes. The base LS trim level disappears and the upscale High Country trim level is new. Chevrolet also makes the formerly optional Trailering Package standard equipment—so it’s easier to take advantage of the Traverse’s 5,000-pound towing capacity—and a new Sun and Wheel Package is available. Those updates broaden this Chevy’s appeal but do not address perceived quality issues related to the powertrain and interior materials.

Verdict: Chevy gets a lot of things right with the 2025 Traverse. However, there are head-scratchers related to quality and usability. From the unpleasant engine note and cheap interior plastics to the fussy wiper controls and aggravating third-row folding process, the Traverse regularly draws unfavorable attention to itself.

Reviews Summary

You may not have heard much about the Lexus TX, the company’s full-size three-row SUV. Introduced for the 2024 model year, it’s still a young’un compared to its competition, but has made its mark by offering a spacious interior and three different powertrains, wrapped in a stylish package.

In Lexus’ seven-model SUV lineup, the TX slots between the GX and LX—two body-on-frame models focused on off-roading. You can snag a gas-powered TX or one with a hybrid powertrain, but for this review we're focused on the 550h+ plug-in hybrid model. The PHEV offers the most power and best fuel economy, but also has the highest price.

Verdict: The 2026 Lexus TX 550h+ is a great option for large families that need a spacious third row, but some of the technology comes with a steep learning curve.

2025 Chevrolet Traverse

7/10

2026 Lexus TX

7/10

The 2025 Chevrolet Traverse was a testament to Chevrolet's knack for crafting visually appealing SUVs, both inside and out. Its exterior styling was generally well-received, with the bowtie badge adding a touch of class. Inside, the Traverse featured digital instrumentation and a Google-based infotainment system, which were standard across the lineup. However, the interior materials left much to be desired, with hard, glossy plastics and Evotex artificial leather that failed to convincingly mimic genuine leather, especially disappointing in a vehicle of its price range.

In contrast, the 2026 Lexus TX offered a more luxurious feel, albeit with some shortcomings. The TX 550h+ trim came with a standard panoramic glass roof and striking Matador Red Mica paint, enhancing its visual appeal. The interior boasted multi-zone climate control, heated and cooled front seats, and a spacious third row with USB-C ports and cupholders. However, the material quality didn't quite meet luxury standards, with basic plastics scattered throughout. The redesigned door handles were more of a novelty than a necessity, and the overall cabin could have benefited from more attention to detail.

Performance

2026 Lexus TX

The 2025 Chevrolet Traverse was powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, producing 328 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 326 pound-feet of torque at 3,500 rpm. While the engine's exhaust note was less than pleasing, it delivered ample power, especially in all-wheel-drive mode, providing rapid and controlled acceleration. The Z71 trim, designed for off-road adventures, featured an off-road suspension, 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, and a Twin Clutch AWD system. Despite its rugged capabilities, the Z71's ride was smooth on daily commutes, with a commendable fuel efficiency of 21.5 mpg in combined driving.

The 2026 Lexus TX 550h+ plug-in hybrid impressed with its 404 horsepower from a 3.5-liter V6 and hybrid system. The vehicle offered multiple drive modes, including electric-only and hybrid options, catering to various driving needs. The TX provided a quiet and smooth ride, with a suspension that absorbed bumps effortlessly. Its AWD system could distribute power between the front and rear wheels, enhancing traction on slippery surfaces. The TX's performance was complemented by a Trail Mode for challenging conditions, making it a versatile choice for different terrains.

Form and function

2026 Lexus TX

7/10

The 2025 Chevrolet Traverse excelled in interior space, offering ample room for passengers and cargo. The eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat and heated front seats provided comfort, while the second-row captain's chairs offered good support. However, the lack of third-row USB ports and window shades was a drawback for families. The Traverse boasted 22.9 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, expanding to 97.6 cubic feet with the second row folded, though folding the seats required some maneuvering.

The 2026 Lexus TX 550h+ provided standard luxury features, including heated and cooled front seats and a spacious third row with recline function. The second-row captain's chairs allowed easy access to the third row, though folding them flat was cumbersome. The front seats were roomy but lacked thigh support. The TX offered 20.2 cubic feet of cargo space with all seats in place, expanding to 97 cubic feet with the second row folded. The available kick sensor in the liftgate and power-folding third row added convenience.

Technology

2025 Chevrolet Traverse

10/10

2026 Lexus TX

7/10

The 2025 Chevrolet Traverse featured a standout 17.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Google Built-in, offering Google Maps, Google Assistant, and access to the Google Play Store. The system included wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a Wi-Fi hotspot and SiriusXM 360L satellite radio. The digital rearview mirror and high-definition surround-view camera system were valuable additions, enhancing visibility and maneuverability.

The 2026 Lexus TX's tech offerings were a mixed bag. The 14-inch touchscreen was user-friendly, but some features lacked refinement, such as the inability to manually input satellite radio stations. The steering wheel controls were multifunctional but confusing, and the infotainment system occasionally switched from satellite radio to Apple CarPlay unexpectedly. The TX offered a clear backup camera and an Advanced Park system for automated parking, along with seven USB ports and wireless charging.

Safety

9/10

2026 Lexus TX

7/10

The 2025 Chevrolet Traverse came equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety features, including adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, and lane-keep assist. The Driver Confidence Package added a surround-view camera system and traffic sign recognition, while the Enhanced Driving Package offered Super Cruise hands-free driving assist. The Traverse received a five-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA and a "Top Safety Pick" award from the IIHS.

The 2026 Lexus TX featured the Safety System+ 3.0, which included forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and Proactive Driving Assist. The adaptive cruise control worked well once set up, though the steering wheel controls were confusing. The TX 350 and 500h received five-star ratings from the NHTSA, while the IIHS gave the TX an "Acceptable" rating for the small overlap front crash test on the driver's side and a "Good" rating for the passenger's side.
