2022 Nissan Rogue Reviews Summary

The 2022 Nissan Rogue is a two-row crossover compact SUV with frameless, unibody construction, riding on a platform that was all-new for 2021 and shared with the soon-to-arrive next-generation Mitsubishi Outlander. It comes with front-wheel drive (FWD) or available all-wheel drive (AWD) and in four trim levels. FWD prices start at $26,700 and go up to $36,480 (plus options), equating to a $650 increase for FWD models and $750 increase for AWD models compared to the 2021 model year. Adding all-wheel drive costs $1,500 on any trim level. And those prices include a new, more powerful engine and a new transmission. At 33 mpg combined, the 2022 Rogue is the current leader in its non-hybrid compact crossover SUV class.

2023 Cadillac Escalade Reviews Summary

The ultimate shuttle is a new Cadillac Escalade, preferably in black with the shiniest chrome wheels. Many SUVs are more luxurious and some even quadruple the Escalade’s $80,000 starting price, yet none have the physical presence or the street cred that comes with a Cadillac truck. European brands do not make full-size luxury SUVs like this. They come close, but for sheer interior space and towing capacity, American brands dominate the segment. The Escalade was redesigned for the 2021 model year and carries over to 2023 mostly unchanged. That means it still boasts the industry’s best hands-free driving system, the sharpest screens, and the most stereo speakers.

2022 Nissan Rogue

7/10

2023 Cadillac Escalade

7/10

The 2022 Nissan Rogue continued the mature styling introduced in its previous redesign, featuring a V-motion grille, multi-level LED headlights, and a sleek floating roof. The interior boasted a sophisticated layered dash, an electronic gear selector lever, and ample storage space, including a roomy second row with Zero Gravity bucket-style front seats. Fit and finish were exemplary, especially in the top-of-the-line Platinum model.

The 2023 Cadillac Escalade, towering nearly six-and-a-half feet above the ground, was a motorized cargo container with three rows of leather seats and a plethora of computers. Its athletic and trim look was achieved through thin LED lights and darkened chrome bits on the Sport Platinum trim. The interior featured a 38-inch curved array of screens, seven choices of wood trim, and luxurious leather combinations. However, some controls and seats were shared with cheaper GM vehicles, which detracted from the overall luxury experience.

Performance

2022 Nissan Rogue

8/10

2023 Cadillac Escalade

6/10

The 2022 Nissan Rogue's new 1.5-liter VC-Turbo engine delivered 201 horsepower and 225 lb-ft of torque, a significant improvement over the previous model. The engine's variable compression technology allowed for better fuel efficiency, achieving 30 mpg city/37 mpg highway/33 mpg combined. The new CVT transmission provided a smooth and responsive driving experience, while the chassis and suspension ensured a controlled ride with minimal body roll.

The 2023 Cadillac Escalade's standard 6.2-liter V8 engine produced 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, suitable for towing up to 8200 pounds. However, its performance felt heavy in passing situations. The Escalade-V variant, with a supercharged Corvette V8, offered 682 horsepower and 653 lb-ft of torque, but seemed excessive. An optional 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 provided a smoother and more efficient alternative. The Escalade's magnetic dampers and air suspension improved maneuverability, but wind noise at highway speeds was noticeable.

Form and function

2023 Cadillac Escalade

9/10

The 2022 Nissan Rogue offered a well-thought-out interior with numerous storage options, including bottle holders, cupholders, a glove compartment, and various cubbies. Rear-seat passengers had ample storage and charging ports. The cargo area provided 31.6-36.5 cubic feet of space, expandable to 74.1 cubic feet with the second row folded flat.

The 2023 Cadillac Escalade excelled in interior space, offering 25 cubic feet behind the third row, 73 cubic feet behind the second row, and 121 cubic feet with both rows down. The Escalade ESV variant provided even more space. The controls were user-friendly, and features like a front console refrigerator and power-retractable side steps added convenience. However, the second-row seats were not powered, which was a minor drawback.

Technology

2023 Cadillac Escalade

The 2022 Nissan Rogue featured a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, a 9-inch center infotainment touchscreen, and a 10.8-inch head-up display on upper trims. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were standard, with wireless Apple CarPlay available on higher trims. ProPilot Assist with Navi-Link offered advanced driver-assist capabilities, integrating navigation for predictive speed control.

The 2023 Cadillac Escalade boasted a span of OLED screens across the dash, providing sharp and clear visuals. Super Cruise, a hands-free highway driving system, was a standout feature, offering superior performance compared to competitors. The Escalade also included night vision with pedestrian detection, a 36-speaker AKG audio system, and massaging front seats. However, some tech features were shared with cheaper GM vehicles, which detracted from the luxury feel.

Safety

6/10

The 2022 Nissan Rogue came with the Nissan Safety Shield 360 suite, including automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and more. ProPilot Assist offered Level 2 advanced driver-assist capabilities. The Rogue received a four-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS for the 2021 model.

The 2023 Cadillac Escalade earned four out of five stars from the NHTSA, with lower ratings for front-passenger protection and rollover resistance. Standard safety features included forward automatic emergency braking, a Safety Alert seat, and rear parking sensors. Optional features included reverse emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and Super Cruise.
