2021 Ford F-150 Reviews Summary

The Ford F-Series pickup truck has been the bestselling vehicle in the United States for decades, so a lot is at stake with any redesign. The 2021 Ford F-150 plays it safe, with changes that are smaller in scope than the truck’s previous redesign (for the 2015 model year), but nonetheless significant.

This latest redesign brought an updated version of the previous-generation truck’s bold styling, a revamped interior with more convenience features, and the new Sync 4 infotainment system, as well as an available PowerBoost hybrid powertrain. This is the first time Ford has offered an F-150 hybrid, and the PowerBoost is currently the only full-hybrid powertrain available in a full-size pickup truck.

The F-150’s traditional rivals are the Chevrolet Silverado 1500/GMC Sierra 1500 twins and Ram 1500, along with the slower-selling Nissan Titan and Toyota Tundra.

Ford offers a staggering array of options, including six trim levels (XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited), three cab configurations, three bed sizes, six powertrains, and the choice of rear-wheel drive (RWD) or four-wheel drive (4WD). Our test vehicle was an F-150 King Ranch with the SuperCrew cab, 4WD, and the PowerBoost hybrid powertrain.

2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Reviews Summary

The 2021 Chevrolet Silverado HD is plenty capable but its interior design keeps it from being a standout in the segment. Still, the Silverado 2500HD has a number of redeeming qualities that make it worthy of consideration, from comfortable accommodations to innovative camera technology.

Scoring equally at 8 out of 10, both the 2021 Ford F-150 and the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD offer impressive form and function features. The F-150 sets itself apart with thoughtful design elements aimed at enhancing functionality. These seats allow occupants to rest comfortably after long hours on the job site. The truck's cabin offers versatility with a range of seating configurations, from the two-door regular cab to the SuperCrew cab with full-size rear doors, ensuring ample space for passengers and cargo. Bed access is made easier with optional power running boards and a fold-out step in the tailgate, while the available in-bed power outlets, part of the optional Pro Power Onboard system, add convenience for powering tools and equipment on the go. 2021 Ford F-150 vs 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Meta Description Explore the detailed comparison between the 2021 Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD, focusing on design, performance, technology, safety, and cost-effectiveness.

Introduction The 2021 Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD enter the arena as two heavyweight contenders in the pickup truck category. The Ford F-150, a symbol of reliability and innovation, continues to be America's best-selling vehicle, boasting a new hybrid powertrain option and a slew of technological advancements. The Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD, known for its immense capability, doesn't shy away from tough tasks, offering comfortable accommodations and cutting-edge camera technology. Both trucks serve distinct purposes, with the F-150 leaning towards innovation and the Silverado 2500HD emphasizing rugged functionality.

Look and Feel CarGurus experts rate the look and feel of the 2021 Ford F-150 at 8 out of 10, compared to the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD at 6 out of 10. The F-150's exterior retains its iconic ruggedness with new aerodynamic improvements, including active grille shutters and a redesigned front fascia, enhancing both aesthetics and fuel efficiency. The interior blends traditional elements with luxury, especially in higher trims like the King Ranch, featuring leather upholstery and wood trim. In contrast, the Silverado 2500HD stands tall with a commanding presence and offers practicality through innovative bed access solutions. Its interior, while functional, lacks the sophistication seen in its Ford counterpart, marking a clear distinction in design philosophy and execution between the two models.

Performance Both vehicles are rated equally by CarGurus experts with a score of 8 out of 10 for performance. The Ford F-150 offers a variety of powertrains, including the innovative PowerBoost hybrid, which provides a blend of power and efficiency unprecedented in the full-size pickup truck segment. On the other hand, the Silverado 2500HD caters to those requiring heavy-duty capabilities, offering powerful V8 options and a robust towing capacity. Despite their different focuses, both trucks excel in delivering performance tailored to their target markets.

Form and Function When it comes to form and function, both vehicles score an 8 out of 10. The F-150 excels with features designed for work and convenience, such as the fold-flat shifter for an impromptu work surface and the Pro Power Onboard for in-bed power outlets. The Silverado 2500HD, while offering ample space and comfort, particularly in the Crew Cab configuration, also focuses on functionality with its durable bed and easy bed access, though it falls short in matching Ford's innovative touches.

Technology Technology sees the Ford F-150 pulling ahead with a 9 out of 10 rating, compared to the Silverado 2500HD's 8 out of 10. Ford's Sync 4 infotainment system sets a high bar with its wireless connectivity options and the capability for over-the-air updates, outpacing the Silverado 2500HD's Chevrolet Infotainment 3 system. While the Silverado does offer commendable technology, such as its bed-view camera, it doesn't quite reach the level of integration and user-friendliness found in the F-150.
