2020 Land Rover Range Rover Reviews Summary

The Land Rover Range Rover is the definitive word in “ultra-luxury sport utility vehicle.” It’s the perfect example of a no-compromise SUV, delivering superlative cabin space, luxury appointments, power, and capability.

Believe it or not, the current fourth-generation Range Rover is getting long in the tooth. A fifth-generation Range Rover is around the corner, so how has Land Rover kept its flagship SUV relevant? With incremental updates through the years. In addition to new infotainment and safety technologies, Land Rover has continued to expand the powertrain lineup, to the point where there are now six different powertrain options. So does the Range Rover continue to set the standard for 4x4 luxury? Read on to find out.

2020 Nissan Rogue Reviews Summary

Nissan hasn’t redesigned the Rogue since 2014, but an all-new version of this SUV is coming for the 2021 model year. In the meantime, dealers will be eager to sell remaining stocks of the outgoing 2020 Nissan Rogue, and the deals on these new cars ought to be mighty juicy. Should you bite? Should you wait? Or should you shop for something else? The answers to these questions depend on who you are and what you value in a compact crossover SUV.

2020 Land Rover Range Rover

2020 Nissan Rogue

7/10

The 2020 Land Rover Range Rover was a testament to luxury and ruggedness, a legacy that began with the Series I off-roader. Initially favored by wealthy British landowners, the Range Rover evolved into a luxury SUV with robust 4x4 capabilities, a combination that defined the brand. By 2020, the Range Rover offered multiple trims, including HSE, Autobiography, and SVAutobiography Dynamic, with options for standard or long wheelbase configurations. Standard features included leather seating, a panoramic sunroof, and a dual-screen infotainment system, while higher trims added luxury touches like massaging seats and a rear-seat entertainment system.

In contrast, the 2020 Nissan Rogue was a simpler, more straightforward offering. Available in S, SV, and SL trims, it featured a single engine and transmission combination with options for front-wheel or all-wheel drive. The Rogue's design, though aging, remained attractive with its bold grille and 19-inch wheels. Inside, the Rogue showed its age with older styling themes and less impressive plastic surfaces. However, thoughtful touches like padded console sides and a high rear seat cushion provided comfort, especially for rear passengers who enjoyed excellent views and amenities like a panoramic sunroof.

The 2020 Land Rover Range Rover offered a diverse range of powertrains, starting with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine producing 355 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque. The HSE trim featured a non-hybrid version of the same engine, delivering 395 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque. A turbodiesel V6 was also available, rated at 254 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. The P525 and Autobiography trims came with a supercharged 5.0-liter V8, generating 518 hp and 461 lb-ft of torque, with an optional plug-in hybrid powertrain offering 398 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque. The SV Autobiography Dynamic trim boasted a 5.0-liter V8 tuned to 557 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. All engines were paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard four-wheel drive. The Range Rover excelled in comfort and off-road capability, with an electronic air suspension and Terrain Response System offering various drive modes for different conditions.

The 2020 Nissan Rogue, on the other hand, was equipped with a single 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine producing 170 horsepower, paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). While the CVT made the most of the available power, the Rogue struggled with acceleration, especially when merging onto highways or climbing grades. The EPA estimated a combined fuel economy of 29 mpg for front-wheel-drive models, but real-world testing yielded only 24.9 mpg. The Rogue's ride and handling were improved by Intelligent Trace Control and Active Ride Control, but the driving experience was marred by lifeless steering and CVT drone.

Form and function

2020 Nissan Rogue

The 2020 Land Rover Range Rover offered two wheelbase options, with standard seating for five or an optional four-seat configuration with second-row captain’s chairs. The SWB version provided 70.9 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded, while the LWB model offered 77.5 cubic feet. Despite its luxury status, the Range Rover's cargo space was less than some competitors. The SUV featured a hands-free power liftgate with a unique two-piece design, making it easier to load large items. Interior storage was adequate, with decently sized door compartments and cupholders.

In contrast, the 2020 Nissan Rogue's interior was less accommodating for taller drivers, with limited seat height adjustment. However, rear passengers enjoyed a high seat cushion, excellent thigh support, and a panoramic sunroof. The Rogue offered 39 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, more than some competitors, and included underfloor storage and a Divide-n-Hide cargo management system. While in-cabin storage was limited, the Rogue excelled in cargo utility.

Technology

The 2020 Land Rover Range Rover featured the InControl Touch Pro Duo system, consisting of two touchscreens. The top screen handled navigation, phone, and media, while the lower screen managed climate controls and vehicle settings. The system's integrated dials changed functions based on the selected menu, offering a unique but sometimes challenging user experience. The Range Rover also included a fully digital instrument panel and an optional head-up display.

The 2020 Nissan Rogue's infotainment system included Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a hands-free text messaging assistant. Upgrades included SiriusXM, navigation, a Bose sound system, and NissanConnect Services with features like Amazon Alexa and remote access. However, the 7-inch touchscreen was outdated, with slow response times and subpar voice recognition, detracting from the overall tech experience.

Safety

2020 Nissan Rogue

6/10

The 2020 Land Rover Range Rover came with standard safety features like low-speed automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning. Optional features included a 360-degree camera, blind-spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control. While the Range Rover offered a solid list of safety features, some competitors provided more standard equipment.

The 2020 Nissan Rogue included the Safety Shield 360 suite, with features like forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and blind-spot monitoring. Additional features included a Rear Door Alert and Tire Fill Alert system. Optional safety features included a surround-view camera and ProPilot Assist adaptive cruise control. However, the Rogue's crash-test ratings were less impressive, with a 4-star overall rating from the NHTSA and no Top Safety Pick designation from the IIHS.
