CarGurus Analysis: 2023 Toyota Sienna
overall

Summary
With 167 currently listed for sale and an average price of $40,570, 45.5% of 2023 Toyota Sienna listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Toyota Sienna 4.11 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.67 / 10.
100.0% of 2023 Toyota Sienna listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Toyota Sienna stands out in the minivan segment because it uses a standard hybrid engine, which gives it a clear identity among family haulers. It is also appealing for shoppers who want the practicality minivans are known for, since it offers strong cargo space and a spacious cabin. For many buyers, that combination makes it a more sensible choice than a typical three-row crossover, especially when family convenience matters most.
Its strengths are easy to understand: it is fuel-efficient, spacious, and comes with standard advanced safety features. Owners also praise its impressive fuel economy and comfort, with some reporting up to 36 mpg. At the same time, the 2023 Toyota Sienna is not without drawbacks. The second-row seats are not removable, and the driving experience can be held back by sluggish acceleration and an irritating transmission. Some owners also mention concerns about engine noise during acceleration, along with mixed impressions of the backup camera quality and Apple CarPlay.

Awesome ride, comfort and great mpg. Good looking too. However, backup camera resolution can be improved. Spare tire should come as standard in a minivan.

2023 Sienna XLE 7 passenger AWD My Grandchildrens Favorite! It has lots of room..they can slide the seats back and have living room comfort. They like the rear USB charging ports, rear AC/heat controls, and they can always fit friends back there with them, and their gear. I like it because its comfortable, safe, and gets 35 miles per gallon. The All Wheel Drive is best..most of those available are Front wheel drive. In recent snowstorms, I saw many other vehicles slid off the road, but I never spun a wheel with the AWD. Fantastic resale value, if I ever want to sell it, such as if my needs change. The hybrid is quiet, smooth, and, actually has more horsepower than the older Sienna V6, because the battery assists with extra power when in sport mode. Now, for what I dont like: Irritating Apple car play, when you plug the maps in, you have to wait, and wait, for the directions to appear. Too slow. Apparently, there is no way to upgrade to Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which apparenly solves that problem. Its unclear why Toyota cant/wont allow the software upgrade to make the Apple Car play faster and not frustrating. The back part of the van is difficult to enter, especially for large adults with knee problems. Young adults, under 200 pounds wont have a problem. We carry a step stool so my wife can enter the rear of the van when desired. I do agree, the 3rd seat, when folded down, kind of bounces, unless you set something on it like groceries, suitcases, cargo mat, etc, but that has never caused us any problem. While I have read of unable to start problems because the battery ran down mostly due to defective foot activated door sensors in the 2022 model, I have not had the problem in the 2023 Sienna. For that reason, I recommend avoiding the 2022 Sienna, and go with 2023. I have no desire to go out to my van, and then not be able to start it because the battery is dead, and for that to happen multiple times. I have never had a dead battery in my 2023. It works great every time, except for the issues I mentioned, above. Lastly, my Sienna came with only one key, this is as convient as a broken leg, and they take forever to get me the promised new key...which has never arrived.

| Year-Round Low | $40,664 |
| Year-Round High | $42,645 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $41,991 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −3.16% |
Prices have softened 3.16% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,836 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.
Is the 2023 Toyota Sienna a good car?
Generally — the 2023 Toyota Sienna earns a 4.11/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its fuel efficiency, spacious cabin, and comfort, and the hybrid setup is a major draw for families who want strong mileage. The Sienna also stands out for practicality and everyday usefulness, especially if you value minivan convenience over crossover styling.
The main trade-offs are sluggish acceleration and an irritating transmission, and some owners also mention engine noise under hard acceleration. In use-case terms, it makes the most sense if you want a family hauler that prioritizes efficiency, space, and safety over quick responses or sporty driving feel.
Only 40.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market still rewards careful comparison shopping.
Is the 2023 Toyota Sienna reliable?
Owners rate it 4.11/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience centered on efficiency, comfort, and family-friendly practicality. The hybrid powertrain and the overall long-term appeal of the cabin and packaging help reinforce that impression.
The expert evaluation also describes the technology as reliable, even if the interface itself feels dated and a bit clunky to use. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright durability and more about living with the Sienna’s weaker acceleration and older-feeling tech.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota Sienna?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on how the hybrid system, transmission behavior, and cabin electronics feel in real-world use. Pay close attention to seat condition, infotainment operation, and any signs that the vehicle has been used heavily as a family shuttle.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The lineup includes a base LE, XLE, sporty XSE, upper-class Limited, top-shelf Platinum, and the 25th Anniversary Special Edition. The LE and XLE are the only trims that can seat eight, while the XLE adds standard LED fog lights, power-sliding doors, and a power liftgate that make daily family use easier.
- Powertrain: Every model uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid setup with two front-mounted electric motors, plus a third rear-mounted electric motor on AWD trims. Output is 245 net system horsepower, and the efficiency focus is a major part of the Sienna’s appeal.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense-style coverage includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with steering assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. These features are standard, which is especially valuable if you want a family vehicle with broad driver-assistance coverage.
- Infotainment: The Sienna uses a 9-inch touchscreen with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, Bluetooth, an optional navigation system, and seven USB ports. CarPlay and Android Auto require a wired connection, and the interface is older and can feel clunky.
- Fuel efficiency: The EPA rates AWD models at 35 mpg city, 36 highway, and 35 combined, while FWD models are rated at 36 mpg across the board.
Which 2023 Toyota Sienna trim should I buy?
The 2023 Toyota Sienna is offered in 6 trim levels: LE, XLE, XSE, Limited, Platinum, and 25th Anniversary Special Edition.
Here's the short version:
- LE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Sienna formula at the lowest rung. It makes sense if you want the hybrid efficiency and family-friendly packaging without paying for extra convenience features.
- XLE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds standard LED fog lights, power-sliding doors, and a power liftgate. If you want the most useful everyday upgrades without jumping too far up the price ladder, this is the one to target.
- XSE: Choose this if you want a sportier look and feel, especially since the front-wheel-drive version gets 20-inch wheels. It is the trim for buyers who want the Sienna to look a little less like a traditional minivan.
- Limited: This is the upscale comfort step, aimed at shoppers who want a more premium cabin and a more polished overall experience.
- 25th Anniversary Special Edition: This trim sits just below the Limited and is the choice if you want a commemorative version with a more distinctive positioning.
- Platinum: This is the top-tier choice, and it is for buyers who want the most upscale presentation and the richest-feeling interior.
The standard safety package is a strong point across the lineup, so you do not need to move up trims just to get meaningful driver-assistance coverage.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota Sienna?
This looks like a buyer-friendly market if you are ready to compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 40.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,836 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.16% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 85.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $40,664, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Toyota Sienna's resale value?
The current average of $40,664 sits slightly below last year's $41,991.
That softer pricing suggests the market has become a little more favorable for buyers, which can also shape future resale expectations. If you buy well now, you may have less downside risk than you would have when prices were higher. The Sienna’s strong efficiency and family appeal should help support demand, especially among shoppers who want a practical hybrid minivan.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.11/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2023 Toyota Sienna safe?
The 2023 Toyota Sienna earns five-star ratings from NHTSA, and the mechanically identical 2022 Sienna received a Top Safety Pick+ designation from IIHS.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota makes safety a major selling point here, with standard automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with steering assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. That standard equipment is especially reassuring in a family vehicle.
The main caveat is that the 2023 model had not yet been rated by IIHS at the time of the source material, so the strongest IIHS result cited comes from the mechanically identical prior model year.
Should I buy a 2023 Toyota Sienna or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 40.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.16% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.11/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It combines hybrid efficiency with strong family practicality and standard safety features.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $36,112, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $40,664 average.
- It carries over the redesigned hybrid-only formula and adds a Woodland trim for a more adventurous look.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $44,086, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $40,664 average.
- It keeps the hybrid formula while adding a more modern-feeling family-hauler package.
The bottom line: The 2023 is the right pick if you want the current-year balance of efficiency, space, and safety at a softer price than last year. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 is the better value play; if you want to spend more for a newer model-year alternative, the 2024 is the next step up.
