CarGurus Analysis: 2023 Toyota Sienna
overall

Summary
With 98 currently listed for sale near Philadelphia, PA and an average price of $51,806, 52.0% of 2023 Toyota Siennas for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Toyota Sienna 4.11 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.67 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2023 Toyota Sienna stands out in the minivan segment because it uses a standard hybrid engine, a feature that sets it apart from many rivals. That hybrid setup also aligns with what shoppers tend to value most in a family hauler: fuel efficiency, spaciousness, and standard advanced safety features. For buyers who want the practicality of a minivan without giving up efficiency, that combination is the Sienna’s biggest appeal.
It is also easy to see why families are drawn to it. The Sienna is described as a blessing for parents on the go, thanks to the convenience and cargo space that minivans are known for. At the same time, it is not without compromises: the second-row seats are not removable, the transmission is irritating, and acceleration is sluggish. Owners also praise its comfort and fuel economy, though some note concerns about power, engine noise during acceleration, and mixed results with technology such as Apple CarPlay and the backup camera.

Awesome ride, comfort and great mpg. Good looking too. However, backup camera resolution can be improved. Spare tire should come as standard in a minivan.

2023 Sienna XLE 7 passenger AWD My Grandchildrens Favorite! It has lots of room..they can slide the seats back and have living room comfort. They like the rear USB charging ports, rear AC/heat controls, and they can always fit friends back there with them, and their gear. I like it because its comfortable, safe, and gets 35 miles per gallon. The All Wheel Drive is best..most of those available are Front wheel drive. In recent snowstorms, I saw many other vehicles slid off the road, but I never spun a wheel with the AWD. Fantastic resale value, if I ever want to sell it, such as if my needs change. The hybrid is quiet, smooth, and, actually has more horsepower than the older Sienna V6, because the battery assists with extra power when in sport mode. Now, for what I dont like: Irritating Apple car play, when you plug the maps in, you have to wait, and wait, for the directions to appear. Too slow. Apparently, there is no way to upgrade to Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which apparenly solves that problem. Its unclear why Toyota cant/wont allow the software upgrade to make the Apple Car play faster and not frustrating. The back part of the van is difficult to enter, especially for large adults with knee problems. Young adults, under 200 pounds wont have a problem. We carry a step stool so my wife can enter the rear of the van when desired. I do agree, the 3rd seat, when folded down, kind of bounces, unless you set something on it like groceries, suitcases, cargo mat, etc, but that has never caused us any problem. While I have read of unable to start problems because the battery ran down mostly due to defective foot activated door sensors in the 2022 model, I have not had the problem in the 2023 Sienna. For that reason, I recommend avoiding the 2022 Sienna, and go with 2023. I have no desire to go out to my van, and then not be able to start it because the battery is dead, and for that to happen multiple times. I have never had a dead battery in my 2023. It works great every time, except for the issues I mentioned, above. Lastly, my Sienna came with only one key, this is as convient as a broken leg, and they take forever to get me the promised new key...which has never arrived.

How much does the 2023 Toyota Sienna cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $41,904 |
| Year-Round Low | $40,927 |
| Year-Round High | $42,990 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $42,990 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −2.53% |
Prices have softened 2.53% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,599 listings available, which suggests you have a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2023 Toyota Sienna a good car?
Generally — the 2023 Toyota Sienna earns a 4.11/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating, which points to broad appeal for family buyers. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.
Owners repeatedly praise its fuel efficiency, spaciousness, and comfort, and the hybrid setup is a major draw for shoppers who want strong mileage in a family hauler. The trade-offs are familiar: the transmission can be irritating, acceleration is sluggish, and some owners note mixed results with Apple CarPlay and the backup camera.
For you, that means the Sienna makes the most sense if you value practicality, efficiency, and everyday family usefulness over quick acceleration or a more modern-feeling tech interface. With 34.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2023 Toyota Sienna reliable?
Owners rate it 4.11/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many shoppers, with repeated praise for the hybrid’s efficiency and the van’s comfort over time. On the expert side, the technology is described as reliable, which supports the idea that the Sienna is built to be a steady daily driver rather than a high-drama one.
If you buy used, your biggest long-term risk is less about the concept of the vehicle and more about finding one that has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by heavy family use.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota Sienna?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a careful inspection of the second row, the transmission behavior, and the condition of the tech features you plan to use every day. Because this is a family-focused minivan, you should also pay close attention to interior wear, seat operation, and signs of hard use.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The LE, XLE, XSE, Limited, Platinum, and 25th Anniversary Special Edition are all explicitly named, and the XLE is the best-value starting point for many shoppers because it adds standard LED fog lights, power-sliding doors, and a power liftgate. The LE and XLE are also the trims to target if you want seating for eight, while the Platinum brings a more upscale cabin with brown leather upholstery and wood-grain accents.
- Powertrain: Every 2023 Sienna uses a hybrid setup built around a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with two front-mounted electric motors, plus a third rear-mounted electric motor on AWD trims. The result is 245 net system horsepower, with strong efficiency but modest acceleration.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense-style coverage is standard here, including automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with steering assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. That standard equipment is a major advantage, especially if you are comparing lower trims.
- Infotainment: The Sienna uses a 9-inch touchscreen, standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity, seven USB ports, and an optional navigation system. CarPlay and Android Auto require a wired connection, and the interface can feel dated.
- Fuel efficiency: The EPA rates AWD models at 35 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 35 mpg combined, while FWD models return 36 mpg across the board.
Which 2023 Toyota Sienna trim should I buy?
The 2023 Toyota Sienna is offered in 6 trim levels: LE, XLE, XSE, Limited, Platinum, and 25th Anniversary Special Edition.
Here's the short version:
- LE: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the Sienna’s hybrid efficiency and standard safety equipment at the lowest starting price. It is also one of the trims that can seat eight, which matters if you need maximum passenger capacity.
- XLE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds standard LED fog lights, power-sliding doors, and a power liftgate. If you want the most useful mix of convenience and price, this is the trim to focus on first.
- XSE: This trim adds a sportier look, and the front-wheel-drive version gets 20-inch wheels. It is a good fit if you want a more distinctive appearance without moving all the way to the luxury end of the lineup.
- Limited: This is the step-up choice if you want a more premium feel without going straight to the top trim. It sits above the XSE and below the Platinum, so it is the middle ground for shoppers who want more refinement.
- 25th Anniversary Special Edition: This trim sits just below the Limited in price and gives you a special-edition alternative if you want something a little different from the standard lineup.
- Platinum: This is the top-shelf choice, and it is the trim to buy if you want the most upscale cabin experience. The test vehicle’s brown leather upholstery and wood-grain accents show the kind of premium presentation this trim can deliver.
Toyota also equips the Sienna with a strong standard safety suite across the lineup, so even lower trims start from a solid baseline.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota Sienna?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.
- Deal availability: 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,599 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.53% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 85.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $40,927, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Toyota Sienna's resale value?
The current average of $41,904 sits slightly below last year's $42,990.
That price movement suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more carefully now, but it also means future sellers may need to stay competitive on pricing. Because the Sienna’s value is supported by strong fuel economy, family-friendly packaging, and broad appeal, it should remain attractive to used buyers who prioritize practicality.
If you keep mileage reasonable and maintain the hybrid system well, you should be in a better position when it is time to sell. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.11/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2023 Toyota Sienna safe?
The 2023 Toyota Sienna earns five-star ratings from NHTSA and was awarded a Top Safety Pick+ designation by IIHS on the mechanically identical 2022 model.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota makes safety a clear priority here, and the standard driver-assistance suite includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with steering assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. That standard equipment is especially valuable in a family vehicle, and it helps lower-trim shoppers avoid feeling like they are missing out on core protection.
Should I buy a 2023 Toyota Sienna or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.53% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.11/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It combines a standard hybrid powertrain with strong family-focused practicality.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $37,066, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $41,904 average.
- It keeps the same standard hybrid powertrain and adds a Woodland trim for a more adventurous look.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $44,968, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $41,904 average.
- It keeps the hybrid formula and adds a more modern-feeling overall family-hauler package.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, efficiency, and family usefulness, the 2023 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2022 gives you much of the same core appeal for less money. If you are willing to spend more for a newer model-year alternative, the 2024 is the next step up.
