Used 2023 Subaru Solterra for Sale near New York

How much does the 2023 Subaru Solterra cost?

Prices have softened 11.24% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 577 listings available, which suggests you should have some room to compare prices and condition.

Is the 2023 Subaru Solterra a good car?

It’s a mixed but appealing choice if you want an electric SUV with Subaru character, and the 3.8/5 user rating alongside the 7.5/10 expert rating points to solid overall appeal rather than standout excellence.

The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners commonly praise the smooth ride, the look and feel, and the handling and power. The Solterra also earns credit for its comfortable driving experience and the practical, usable cargo space that fits crossover shoppers well.

The trade-offs are clear: the design can be polarizing, and the electric range is unimpressive. The expert review also notes that range and charging speed trail several rivals, so you should weigh those compromises against the standard all-wheel-drive appeal.

For shoppers who want an EV that still feels like a Subaru and fits practical crossover use, it makes sense; if range is your top priority, you may want to keep shopping. With 34.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2023 Subaru Solterra reliable?

The 2023 Subaru Solterra is positioned as a sensible, Subaru-like EV, and owner feedback leans toward a dependable-feeling driving experience with smooth, trouble-free everyday use.

Owners describe it as smooth, enjoyable to drive, and well equipped, with several comments pointing to a car you can count on for daily use. The expert review also emphasizes its predictable, serviceable dynamics and its ability to handle rougher roads without drama.

For ownership, the main long-term risk is that battery range and charging convenience may matter more as mileage and age build up, so used buyers should pay close attention to battery condition and charging behavior.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Subaru Solterra?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has seen winter use, frequent charging, or rough roads. Focus on overall condition, tire wear, brake feel, charging-port condition, and whether the cabin and exterior show signs of hard use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Premium trim gets cloth upholstery and an 8-inch touchscreen, while Limited and Touring add StarTex synthetic leather; the top trims also bring more convenience and tech, so base-trim shoppers should check whether the missing features matter to you.
• Powertrain: The Solterra uses a 72.8-kWh battery with 215 hp and 249 pound-feet of torque, plus symmetrical all-wheel drive and X-Mode traction management with Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud modes.
• Safety package: EyeSight is standard and includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high beams, lane-keeping assist, intersection collision avoidance, road-sign assist, and lead-vehicle start.
• Infotainment: Premium trims get an 8-inch touchscreen, while Touring uses a 12.3-inch touchscreen; wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto are standard, and navigation is available by subscription on Premium or by moving up to Limited or Touring.
• Range & charging: The Solterra is rated at 228 miles in Premium trim and 220 miles in Limited and Touring trims, with DC fast charging from zero to 80% in about 56 minutes.
• Battery health: On a used EV, you should check battery state-of-health, confirm how the car has been charged over time, and review how much battery warranty coverage remains so you understand long-term ownership risk.

Which 2023 Subaru Solterra trim should I buy?

The 2023 Subaru Solterra is offered in 3 trim levels: Premium, Limited, Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Premium: This is the value pick if you want the Solterra’s core appeal at the lowest price, including standard all-wheel drive, standard safety tech, wireless smartphone integration, and the 8-inch touchscreen.
• Limited: This is the best-value upgrade if you want more comfort and convenience, since it adds StarTex synthetic leather, a premium Harmon Kardon audio system, and navigation availability.
• Touring: This is the most feature-rich version, with the 12.3-inch touchscreen, an intelligent digital assistant, and the most upscale equipment in the lineup.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, so you do not need to move up a trim just to get the core driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Subaru Solterra?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 577 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.24% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 95.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,166, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Subaru Solterra's resale value?

The current average of $23,024 sits slightly below last year's $25,941.

That price drop suggests the Solterra has already absorbed a meaningful amount of early depreciation. For a future seller, that can be a double-edged sword: you may not see strong resale upside, but you may also be buying after some of the steepest value loss has already happened.

If the market stays soft, resale will likely depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the battery has been maintained. A clean history and strong battery health should matter more than cosmetic extras when it’s time to sell.

Is the 2023 Subaru Solterra safe?

The 2023 Subaru Solterra has not been crash-tested by NHTSA or IIHS, so there are no official crash ratings to cite here.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Subaru’s EyeSight suite is standard, and it includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high beams, lane-keeping assist, intersection collision avoidance, road-sign assist, and lead-vehicle start. The lane-keeping and lane-tracing functions are described as especially effective.

The main caveat is that the Solterra’s official crash-test record is still pending, so you should lean on its standard safety equipment and your own inspection when shopping used.

Should I buy a 2023 Subaru Solterra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.24% compared with last year.
• It’s the first Subaru EV with symmetrical all-wheel drive and a practical, familiar Subaru feel.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $25,719, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $23,024 average.
• It brings updated charging, refreshed standard safety features, and more comfort and convenience.

The bottom line: If you want the lower price and the original Solterra formula, the 2023 makes sense. If you’re willing to pay more for updates that improve charging, comfort, and everyday usability, the 2024 is the better long-term pick. Price-sensitive buyers should start with the 2023, while shoppers who want the more refined version should look at the 2024.

How does the 2023 Subaru Solterra compare to the 2023 Toyota bZ4X?

Expert Pros & Cons (per CarGurus review team)

2023 Subaru Solterra:

• Pros: Standard all-wheel drive, Standard advanced safety features, Comfortable.
• Cons: Potentially polarizing design, Unimpressive electric range.

2023 Toyota bZ4X:

• Pros: Great handling, Comfortable, Wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto.
• Cons: Potentially polarizing design, Unintuitive technology, Poor value for money.

Our experts score the 2023 Subaru Solterra 7.5/10 and the 2023 Toyota bZ4X 6.3/10. The Solterra is the better pick if you want standard all-wheel drive and a stronger safety story. The bZ4X counters with better handling and wireless smartphone integration, but its weaker value and less intuitive tech make it the less compelling overall choice. Both share a polarizing design, so your decision comes down to whether Subaru’s traction-focused identity matters more than Toyota’s slightly sharper road manners.
