Used 2022 Volkswagen Taos for Sale nearBaltimore, MD

How much does the 2022 Volkswagen Taos cost?

Prices have softened 10.64% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,732 listings available, which suggests you should have a healthy number of options to compare.

Is the 2022 Volkswagen Taos a good car?

Generally — you’re looking at a 4.4/5 user rating and a 7/10 expert rating, which points to a well-liked small SUV with clear strengths and a few compromises. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners repeatedly praise the roomy interior, excellent gas mileage, and peppy around-town performance. The Taos also gets credit for quality and handling that can feel more upscale than you might expect at this price point.

The trade-offs are the irritating transmission and technology that isn’t especially intuitive. In practical terms, that means the Taos makes the most sense if you value space, efficiency, and everyday usefulness more than polish.

Good and great deals account for 38.5% of listings, so there’s still meaningful room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Volkswagen Taos reliable?

Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable-feeling daily driver, with repeated praise for its roomy cabin, excellent gas mileage, and peppy performance around town. That kind of feedback usually matters most when you’re trying to judge whether a used SUV will feel trouble-free over time.

Volkswagen also gives the Taos complimentary scheduled maintenance for two years or 20,000 miles, which helps reduce early ownership costs. The expert review also describes the Taos as a strong case for consideration thanks to its roomy cabin, driving assistance tech, and rewarding ride and handling.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the transmission and infotainment complaints may become ongoing annoyances rather than one-time quirks.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Volkswagen Taos?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a vehicle history report on any candidate and prioritize a careful test drive, especially in stop-and-go traffic where drivetrain behavior is easiest to notice. Focus on overall condition, because the Taos’s value proposition depends heavily on whether the cabin, tech, and powertrain feel well cared for.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Taos comes in S, SE, or SEL trim. The S is the most basic version, while the SEL adds two-tone perforated leather with contrast stitching, an upscale stitched dashboard strip, matching door panel inserts, 19-inch wheels, and ventilated front seats with 4Motion.
• Powertrain: Every Taos uses a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 158 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel-drive versions use an eight-speed automatic, while 4Motion AWD versions use a seven-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission.
• Safety package: IQ Drive is the named driver-assistance suite. On S trim, the package adds forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist. On SE, some of those features are standard, and the package supplies only the remaining items.
• Infotainment: S trim gets a 6.5-inch touchscreen, while SE and SEL use an 8-inch display with MIB3 software. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto start with SE, and SEL adds navigation plus an eight-speaker BeatsAudio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The Taos averaged 27.1 mpg in testing, and the EPA says the 4Motion version gets 28 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2022 Volkswagen Taos trim should I buy?

The 2022 Volkswagen Taos is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SE, SEL.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, and it makes the Taos appealing if you want the lowest-cost way into the model. You still get the core Taos strengths, but the base setup is the one most likely to leave you wanting more tech and safety equipment unless you add the IQ Drive package.
• SE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM with 360L, voice control, and wireless smartphone charging. It also gets the safety package features that are not standard on S.
• SEL: Choose this if you want the most upscale Taos experience. It adds navigation, an eight-speaker BeatsAudio system, and the most complete safety and convenience content, including rain-sensing wipers, road sign recognition, traffic-jam assistance, and rear parking sensors with automatic braking.

The safety package is standard or available across the lineup, but the base S is the trim where you’ll feel the biggest feature gap.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Volkswagen Taos?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 38.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,732 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.64% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 88.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,933, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Volkswagen Taos's resale value?

The current average of $17,933 sits slightly below last year's $20,068.

That price drop suggests the Taos has already moved into a more buyer-friendly part of its depreciation curve. If you buy at today’s average or below, you may be starting from a more favorable cost basis than shoppers who paid closer to last year’s level.

For a future seller, the key question will be whether the Taos’s value proposition stays strong enough to keep demand steady. Its roomy cabin, efficiency, and safety reputation should help, but the transmission and tech complaints may limit how quickly it rebounds.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Volkswagen Taos safe?

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Volkswagen makes IQ Drive standard or available across the Taos lineup, and the suite includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist. On SEL, all of this comes standard, along with rain-sensing wipers, road sign recognition, low-speed Travel Assist with traffic-jam assistance, and rear parking sensors with automatic braking.

One caveat is that the Taos had not yet been crash tested by the major agencies when this review was published. That means you should lean more heavily on the available driver-assistance content and the vehicle’s condition when evaluating a used example.

Should I buy a 2022 Volkswagen Taos or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 38.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.64% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It introduced Volkswagen’s most affordable crossover with a roomy cabin and strong value focus.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $20,425, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $17,933 average.
• It adds more standard safety features and equipment.

The bottom line: If you want the better price and a strong mix of space, efficiency, and safety value, the 2022 is the smarter buy. If you’re willing to pay more for added standard equipment, the 2023 is the better path for shoppers who prioritize extra features over upfront savings.
