Is the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L a good car?

Generally — the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L earns a 4.33/5 from owners and a 7.83/10 expert rating, which points to a strong overall showing for used shoppers.

The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its luxury features, spaciousness, stylish design, and overall driving experience. The three-row layout and upscale cabin materials fit buyers who want a family SUV that feels more premium than purely utilitarian.

The main trade-offs are the underpowered base engine and the noisy powertrain, which can keep the driving experience from matching the cabin’s polish. Even so, the Grand Cherokee L’s upscale feel and family-friendly packaging make it a compelling choice if you want comfort and presence in a midsize SUV.

Good and great deals account for 35.5% of listings, so there is still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L reliable?

Owners rate it 4.33/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with strong satisfaction around its luxury features, spaciousness, and driving experience. The review summary also highlights the kind of ownership experience people can count on when they want a refined family SUV.

On the road, the chassis feels composed and the ride quality is a major strength, which supports confidence over time. Jeep also covers three years of service and includes other benefits through Jeep Wave, which can help early ownership feel easier.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the base engine’s weakness and cabin noise may become more noticeable as mileage climbs.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any listing you like, even if the market looks clean overall. Prioritize a careful inspection of the cabin, electronics, and seat comfort, since those are the kinds of details that matter most in a premium-leaning family SUV. It also makes sense to focus on how the vehicle drives under load, especially if you plan to carry passengers often.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Laredo gets simpler six-speaker or nine-speaker audio, while higher trims add more upscale materials and features such as black roofs, larger wheels, more chrome, and richer interior finishes. If you want the most complete luxury feel, the upper trims are the ones to compare closely.
• Powertrain: You can choose a 3.6-liter V6 or a 5.7-liter V8, both paired with an eight-speed automatic and either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. The V6 is the efficiency-minded choice, while the V8 is reserved for higher trims and brings stronger performance.
• Safety package: Adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, forward automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and rear parking sensors come standard. Automatic parking, front cross-traffic alert, driver attention monitor, and traffic sign recognition are standard on Summit trims and optional on Overland.
• Infotainment: Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, and Jeep offers an optional 10.3-inch passenger display plus optional dual 10.1-inch rear-seat touchscreens with Amazon Fire TV. Upper trims also bring more advanced tech such as a head-up display and night vision.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 returns an EPA-estimated 18 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined, while the V8 is rated at 14/22/17.

Which 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L trim should I buy?

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L is offered in 5 trim levels: Laredo, Overland, Summit, Summit Reserve, and Overland with the Off-Road Group.

Here's the short version:

• Laredo: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Grand Cherokee L’s core three-row packaging and upscale design at the lowest price. It makes sense if you want the space and style without paying for the luxury extras.
• Overland: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more premium feel and can be paired with the Off-Road Group, which brings all-terrain tires and the Trail-Rated badge. It’s the trim to target if you want the broadest mix of comfort, capability, and value.
• Summit: This trim leans harder into luxury and adds features such as automatic parking, front cross-traffic alert, driver attention monitor, and traffic sign recognition. It suits you if you want a more fully loaded daily driver.
• Summit Reserve: This is the top luxury choice, with the 19-speaker McIntosh stereo and the richest cabin presentation. Choose it if you want the most premium Grand Cherokee L experience.
• Overland with the Off-Road Group: This is the version to buy if you care most about trail use, since it’s the only trim that earns the Jeep Trail-Rated badge and adds skid plates and smaller 18-inch wheels.

The safety package is strongest on the Summit trims, while the Overland can add some of those features as options.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.

• Deal availability: 35.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 6,780 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.24% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 86.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $27,880, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L's resale value?

The current average of $27,880 sits slightly below last year's $31,767.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim choice rather than broad market momentum alone.

Well-equipped trims with strong feature content should hold more appeal than stripped versions, especially because shoppers in this segment often compare luxury touches and family-friendly tech closely. If you buy carefully now, you may be better positioned to recover value later.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.33/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L safe?

The 2022 Grand Cherokee L has not yet been tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, forward automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and rear parking sensors come standard. Driver and passenger knee airbags also come standard, along with a rear seat alert for possible unattended passengers and trailer sway control.

Higher trims add more advanced assistance features, including automatic parking, front cross-traffic alert, driver attention monitor, and traffic sign recognition on Summit trims, with some of those features optional on Overland. If safety tech is a priority, you should pay close attention to trim level because the feature set expands meaningfully as you move up.

Should I buy a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 35.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.24% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It adds wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a more polished cabin and stronger premium appeal.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $25,917, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $27,880 average.
• It introduced Jeep’s first three-row SUV in more than a decade.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $31,164, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $27,880 average.
• It keeps the same comfort-first formula with higher prices and newer rivals.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, inventory, and upscale features, the 2022 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 can save you money while still delivering the same basic three-row concept. If you’re willing to spend more, the 2023 is worth comparing, but the 2022 already gives you much of the appeal at a lower average price.
