Is the 2022 Ford Ranger a good car?

Generally — the 2022 Ford Ranger earns a 4/5 user rating, which points to a strong overall fit for shoppers who want a practical midsize pickup. The overview describes it as a work-ready truck with strong capability, relatively simple hardware, and useful truck credentials, including a maximum towing capacity of 7,500 pounds when properly equipped. Is the 2022 Ford Ranger reliable?

Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The overview suggests the Ranger’s reliability story is mixed rather than spotless: it highlights simple hardware and a practical design, but also notes that the generation’s record is not perfect. For used buyers, that means you should expect a truck that can make sense long term, but one where condition and maintenance history matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Ford Ranger?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should prioritize a history report first, then focus on a pre-purchase inspection that checks for signs of prior damage, deferred maintenance, or uneven wear. Because the Ranger’s appeal comes from its capability and everyday usefulness, pay close attention to how the truck has been used and whether the condition matches the seller’s claims.

What is the 2022 Ford Ranger's resale value?

The current average of $27,636 sits slightly below last year's $30,698.

That price movement suggests the Ranger has softened enough to give future buyers some breathing room, but it also means sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy well now, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation pressure later. Trucks with broad appeal and strong utility tend to stay relevant with shoppers, especially when they offer a useful mix of capability and efficiency.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2022 Ford Ranger or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 35.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.97% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $25,876, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $27,636 average.
• It offers a more off-road-focused Tremor setup.

The bottom line: You should start with the 2022 if you want the stronger current-market mix of price, inventory, and broad usefulness. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 is the better value play, especially if you want to spend less upfront and can live with its older-year tradeoffs.
