A redesigned Nissan Frontier finally arrives to wage war against aging competition.

As they say, “better late than never.” After 17 years, we can finally call the Nissan Frontier an all-new truck. Mostly. While the 2022 model looks, feels, and drives completely differently from the 2021 model, it still rides on the same platform as that previous-generation truck, albeit an extensively modified version.

Old bones or not, it’s nearly impossible to confuse the 2022 model year Frontier with the old truck. Updated styling, an enhanced powertrain, a comfortable cabin, and real off-road capability combine to give it a notable advantage against a set of aging competitors from Ford, General Motors, and Toyota.

Excellent vehicle, ended up with a Tacoma because we got an absolute steal on one (thanks to Cargurus), but were planning on getting the Frontier. 9 speed transmission is smoother and engine is more powerful than (3rd gen) Tacoma. Had an 08 Pathfinder that was very dependable and the Frontier seems just as good. 3.8 l powerplant has already been in use since 2020 and has shown good reliability. Mercedes 9 speed transmission is in use by this and a plethora of other vehicles and also seems to be reliable. Overall a great vehicle.

I thought the truck was a great vehicle. Lots of generated from the V6 more than I assumed. The features and styling are terrific on the generation of frontier. The standard options are back up cam, blind spot monitoring , bluetooth, apple car play, android compatibility, USB port. It’s definitely not worth $30,000 when thats all the features. Some nice perks would be at least a bed liner and tow receiver especially if its a 4x4. Thats one of the main purposes of having a truck.

After driving a 2021 Toyota tocoma TRD 4x4 off road for 3 years, the Frontier is leap years ahead in overall performance and drivability! Hopefully the reliability will be close to the Tacoma, which is yet to be determined.
