How much does the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class cost?

Prices have softened 12.19% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 881 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class earns a 4.7/5 user rating and an 8.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Technology and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its blend of luxury, performance, and beautiful design, along with the comfortable interior and advanced features. The E-Class also stands out for its versatile personality, since it can be tuned toward comfort, performance, or efficiency depending on configuration.

The main trade-offs are that it can feel overpriced and that some buyers may want a more premium-feeling material mix. The expert review also notes that advanced safety features are not standard, so equipment can depend on how the car is optioned.

The overview frames it as a premium car that can work as both a comfortable daily driver and a more expressive luxury machine, and 38.0% of listings are marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with owners highlighting the car as a blend of luxury, performance, and comfort that they can count on. The expert review also describes it as a quiet and excellent choice for a car this size, with nearly vibration-free cold starts and restarts in traffic.

The cost-effectiveness notes also point to the E-Class as a model that becomes a stronger value when bought used, which can help reduce long-term ownership risk for shoppers who avoid the newest, most heavily optioned examples.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

At 74.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, electronics, and any optional driver-assistance equipment. Because the E-Class can be heavily optioned, condition and equipment verification matter as much as mileage.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin is richly finished even in baser trims, but the Luxury package’s softer-riding, slightly taller suspension and classic hood ornament are no longer part of the lineup.
• Powertrain: The lineup includes multiple engines, from the underwhelming base 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder to electrified inline-six and AMG V8 options.
• Safety package: Forward automatic emergency braking, a driver-attention monitor, and blind-spot monitoring are standard, while all other driver-assist features are optional.
• Infotainment: The car uses dual 12-inch screens, MBUX, wireless phone charging as an option, and standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto that are not wireless.
• Fuel efficiency: The E53 sedan is rated at 22 mpg city and 29 mpg highway, while the E450 4Matic sedan returns 23 mpg city and 30 mpg highway.

Which 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 13 trim levels: E350, E350 4Matic, E450 4Matic, E350 coupe, E450 coupe, E450 4Matic coupe, E450 cabriolet, E450 4Matic cabriolet, AMG E53, AMG E53 4Matic+, AMG E63, AMG E63 S, and AMG E63 S wagon.

Here's the short version:

• E350: This is the entry point, but the base 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder is described as underwhelming, so it makes sense only if you want the lowest starting price and can live with modest performance.
• E350 4Matic: This adds all-wheel drive and is the better everyday pick if you want the standard sedan formula with more traction and a more complete ownership experience.
• E450 4Matic: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because the electrified inline-six is quiet, strong, and much more satisfying than the base engine.
• E350 coupe: Choose this only if you specifically want the coupe body style and are comfortable trading away some practicality for style.
• E450 coupe: This is the stronger coupe choice because it pairs the more desirable powertrain with the coupe body.
• E450 4Matic coupe: This is the coupe to buy if you want the best balance of power and all-weather confidence.
• E450 cabriolet: Pick this if open-air driving matters most and you want the smoother, stronger six-cylinder setup.
• E450 4Matic cabriolet: This is the most complete convertible choice if you want added traction with the stronger engine.
• AMG E53: This is the enthusiast sweet spot, with brisk acceleration, rear-biased AWD, and the variable-rate air suspension that preserves comfort.
• AMG E53 4Matic+: Choose this if you want the AMG E53 formula with the most performance-focused traction setup.
• AMG E63: This is for buyers who want the full V8 experience and the most extreme performance in the lineup.
• AMG E63 S: This is the top performance pick, with the most power and the most dramatic character.
• AMG E63 S wagon: This is the niche choice if you want maximum performance with wagon utility.

Safety-wise, some advanced driver-assistance features remain optional, so you should verify the exact equipment on any car you consider.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and pricing softness to reward careful shopping.

• Deal availability: 38.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 881 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.19% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 74.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $35,858, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?

The current average of $35,986 sits slightly below last year's $40,981.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy more confidently today but may also limit near-term upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that the E-Class is currently in a softer pricing phase, so holding it longer may be necessary to recover more value.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests and for rollover vulnerability; the driver's side received a four-star rating in the frontal crash test.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Forward automatic emergency braking, a driver-attention monitor, and blind-spot monitoring are standard. All other driver-assistance features are optional, so you should confirm the exact safety package on any used example you consider.

Should I buy a 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 38.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 74.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.19% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 brings a mid-cycle update for the infotainment system, engines, and exterior styling.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $29,821, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $35,986 average.
• It offers a stylish design and impressive technology.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $39,004, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $35,986 average.
• It adds standard automatic high-beam headlights and rear USB charging ports in coupe and convertible models.

The bottom line: If you want the most current version of this generation, the 2021 is the right target because it adds meaningful updates without moving far above the used-market average. If price matters most, the 2020 can save you money, while the 2022 makes sense if you want the later-year updates and are willing to pay more.
