CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Jeep Wrangler
overall

Summary
With 8,787 currently listed for sale and an average price of $29,147.00, 33.6% of 2021 Jeep Wranglers for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4.7 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.67 / 10.
82.5% of 2021 Wrangler models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Jeep Wrangler stands out because it blends its long-running, instantly recognizable identity with powertrains that reflect changing buyer demands. It remains an icon with roots in the original Willys Jeep, and it still appeals by being rugged and different from the car-based SUVs that dominate the market. At the same time, Jeep keeps updating it to stay relevant, and the 2021 model offers both a plug-in hybrid option and a Hemi V8 in the four-door Wrangler Unlimited.
That mix of tradition and variety is a big part of the Wrangler’s appeal. Buyers get excellent off-road capability and a stylish design, along with multiple powertrain options that broaden its personality. The tradeoff is that it still has the drawbacks expected of a vehicle built around off-road toughness: poor ride quality, poor handling, and a lack of curtain airbags. Owners also tend to praise its adventurous character and off-road strength, though some note limited cargo space and a few interior quirks.

Was really in the market for a Sahara as we do very little of road. Found a loaded Rubicon that checked all the boxes so we went with it. Although the suspension is a little stiffer then the Sahara it was not too bad. Love the one touch roof and removable rear windows.

2021 Jeep Wrangler Price Trends
CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2021 Jeep Wrangler prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2021 Jeep Wrangler cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $28,904 |
| Year-Round Low | $28,688.91 |
| Year-Round High | $32,188.99 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $32,183 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −10.19% |
Prices have softened 10.19% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 8,910 listings available, which gives you a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $28,688.91, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2021 Jeep Wrangler a good car?
Yes — the 4.7/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the Wrangler earns an expert rating of 7.67/10. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise the off-road capability, power, and adventurous character, and they also like the comfort and manual features that make the driving experience feel more engaging. The trade-offs are familiar for this model: limited cargo space, some interior quirks, and a lack of modern tech features in certain trims.
That lines up with the Wrangler’s use case as a rugged, distinctive SUV rather than a comfort-first daily driver. If you want something that feels special and can handle trail duty, it fits that brief well.
A 33.5% share of listings are priced as good or great deals, so you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Jeep Wrangler reliable?
Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback repeatedly points to the Wrangler as reliable, dependable, and trouble-free over the long term, especially for buyers who value its rugged character and can count on it for adventurous use. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that Jeep has continued to evolve the Wrangler while keeping its core identity intact, which supports the sense that it is built for lasting appeal.
The ownership risk for used buyers is less about the badge and more about how hard the vehicle has been used, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Jeep Wrangler?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper history review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on wear from off-road use, interior condition, and any signs of water intrusion or rough treatment. It also helps to compare trim equipment closely, since the Wrangler’s feature set changes a lot from one version to another.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Sport is very bare-bones, with manual door locks, manual side mirrors, cloth seats, and a basic 5-inch audio display. The Sport S adds power windows and locks, power heated side mirrors, air conditioning, and remote keyless entry.
- Powertrain: The standard 3.6-liter V6 makes 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, with manual or automatic transmission choices. Other options include a turbocharged four-cylinder, a diesel V6, a mild-hybrid V6, and a V8 in the Rubicon 392.
- Safety package: Forward-collision warning, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, parking sensors, and blind-spot monitoring are available, but they are optional. Lane-departure warning is not available.
- Infotainment: The Sport uses a basic 5-inch screen, while the 7-inch Uconnect setup with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is optional on the Sport S and standard on other trims. An 8.4-inch screen is also available.
- Fuel efficiency: The gas V6 with automatic transmission returns 19 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined. The manual version returns 17 mpg city, 23 mpg highway, and 19 mpg combined. The turbo four-cylinder returns 21 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined, while the diesel returns 22 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined.
Which 2021 Jeep Wrangler trim should I buy?
The 2021 Jeep Wrangler is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, Sport S, Sahara, and Rubicon.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The Sport is the most stripped-down choice, and it lacks the power conveniences and upgraded infotainment that make the Wrangler easier to live with every day.
- Sweet-spot trim: The Sport S is the best value if you want a more usable Wrangler, because it adds power windows and locks, air conditioning, and access to the Technology Group.
- Premium/top trim: The Sahara is the best fit if you want a more street-friendly setup, with dual-zone climate control, upgraded upholstery, larger brakes, and a 7-inch touchscreen.
- Off-road trim: The Rubicon is the clear choice if trail capability matters most, thanks to its beefed-up suspension, locking differentials, and disconnecting front sway bar.
The safety package is still mostly optional across the lineup, so you should not assume a fully loaded trim automatically includes every driver-assistance feature.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Jeep Wrangler?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 8,910 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.19% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 82.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $28,688.91, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Jeep Wrangler's resale value?
The current average of $28,904 sits slightly below last year's $32,183.
That price movement suggests the Wrangler has become more accessible for buyers, which can help demand in the near term. For a future seller, the softer market means you may not see the same pricing power you would have a year ago. Even so, the Wrangler’s strong identity and broad appeal can help support resale interest if your vehicle is well kept and properly equipped.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Jeep Wrangler safe?
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
The Wrangler’s safety equipment is fairly basic in standard form, and several driver-assistance features are optional rather than standard. Available features include forward-collision warning, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, parking sensors, and blind-spot monitoring, but lane-departure warning is not available. You do get a backup camera with dynamic guidelines, and the live tire-pressure monitoring system can be especially useful when you air down for off-road driving.
The main caveat is that the Wrangler’s safety story is shaped by its rugged design and limited standard equipment, so you should pay close attention to which features are actually installed on the used example you’re considering.
Should I buy a 2021 Jeep Wrangler or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.19% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It adds both a plug-in hybrid option and a Hemi V8 to broaden the lineup.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $25,914, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $28,904 average.
- It adds a new diesel engine and broadens the Wrangler Unlimited’s mechanical appeal.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $30,854, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $28,904 average.
- It adds to the Wrangler’s distinctive formula while reinforcing its character and capability.
The bottom line: If you want the broadest mix of personality, powertrain variety, and current-market value, the 2021 is the strongest all-around pick. If your priority is spending less, the 2020 is the better budget path, while the 2022 makes sense if you’re willing to pay more for the next model year’s updates and character.
