CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Toyota Sequoia

Summary
With 210 currently listed for sale and an average price of $44,585, 31.9% of 2020 Toyota Sequoias for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Toyota Sequoia 4.75 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2020 Toyota Sequoia stands out as a large, truck-based SUV that leans into durability, towing ability, and family-hauling practicality. It shares its full-size Tundra foundation, and its three rows of seating make it a straightforward choice for buyers who need space for people and gear. Toyota’s reputation for reliable powertrains is a major part of the Sequoia’s appeal, and the model’s body-on-frame construction gives it the kind of rugged character that many shoppers still want in a full-size SUV.
For 2020, the Sequoia’s off-road-focused TRD Pro trim was part of the lineup, bringing Fox shocks, forged wheels with all-terrain tires, skid plates, and Rigid fog lights. Inside, all Sequoias had Toyota Audio Multimedia with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the base SR5 used an eight-inch touch screen and the other trims used a larger 14-inch screen. Toyota Safety Sense was standard across the range, adding features such as adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and lane keeping assistance. The Sequoia’s strengths are clear, but its truck-like ride, poor fuel economy, and limited cargo space are part of the tradeoff.

The TRD Pro package has a great ride all the features needed to keep the family happy and riding in comfort. Sad to see the nearly indestructible 5.7 L V-8 going away on the 2023 model.

This SUV us a tremendous value when compared to the Toyota Land Cruiser. It has the exactly same engine, same power and although does not have as many optional equipment, it is $20k less so definitely hard to pass.

Is the 2020 Toyota Sequoia a good car?
Yes — the 4.75/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. The 2020 Toyota Sequoia stands out as a large, truck-based SUV that leans into durability, towing ability, and family-hauling practicality. It shares its full-size Tundra foundation, and its three rows of seating make it a straightforward choice for you if you need space for people and gear. Toyota’s reputation for reliable powertrains is a major part of its appeal, and the body-on-frame construction gives it the rugged character many shoppers still want in a full-size SUV.
For 2020, it also brings standard Toyota Audio Multimedia with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Toyota Safety Sense across the range. That combination makes it easier for you to live with as a daily family vehicle, even if its truck-like ride and limited cargo space are part of the tradeoff. 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2020 Toyota Sequoia reliable?
Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The 2020 Toyota Sequoia’s reliability case is built around Toyota’s reputation for durable powertrains and its rugged body-on-frame construction. It is a large SUV designed to handle hauling, towing, and family duty without feeling delicate, and that straightforward mechanical setup is part of why shoppers often view it as a long-haul choice.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about complexity and more about age, size, and how well the vehicle was maintained before you buy it.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Toyota Sequoia?
At 59.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from those with accident records. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, with extra attention to body condition, signs of prior repair, and overall wear consistent with a large SUV. Because this model is truck-based and often used for family and hauling duties, condition matters as much as mileage.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Toyota Sequoia?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the right listing.
- Deal availability: 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 214 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 59.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $43,899, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Toyota Sequoia's resale value?
The current average of $44,567 sits slightly below last year's $44,981.
That small decline suggests the market has been fairly stable rather than sharply weakening. For you as a future seller, that kind of movement usually means pricing discipline matters more than trying to chase a big appreciation story. If you keep the vehicle in strong condition and price it in line with the market, you should be able to stay competitive with other full-size SUV listings.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2020 Toyota Sequoia or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 59.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $48,538, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $44,567 average.
- It feels more updated and refined while still keeping the Sequoia’s core space-and-capability formula.
The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2020 is the stronger starting point because pricing is steadier and the market offers some deal opportunities. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model year, the 2021 is the secondary path for buyers who want the same basic formula with a more updated feel.
