Used 2020 Toyota Avalon for Sale nearBaltimore, MD

How much does the 2020 Toyota Avalon cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 279 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2020 Toyota Avalon a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Toyota Avalon earns a 4.5/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

The Avalon’s appeal comes through clearly in its spacious cabin, great safety ratings, and standard advanced safety features. It also feels more relevant than its recent history might suggest, thanks to the TNGA-based redesign and its near-luxury presentation.

The main trade-off is value: the expert review calls it poor value for money, so you may need to be more selective about price and trim. It suits you best if you want a large, comfortable sedan with a premium feel rather than the cheapest path into the segment.

31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2020 Toyota Avalon reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Avalon’s reliability case is helped by Toyota’s reputation for solid build quality and the car’s commendable fit and finish. Its naturally aspirated V6, eight-speed automatic, and conventional front-wheel-drive layout are straightforward hardware, which generally supports predictable ownership.

The review also points to a smooth, quiet highway ride and a well-sorted chassis, both of which suggest a mature, durable design. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about complexity and more about finding a well-maintained example with a clean history.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Toyota Avalon?

At 64.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or multiple owners. Focus on panel alignment, tire wear, brake condition, and whether the electronics and driver-assistance features work as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base XLE uses 17-inch wheels, while Limited gets 18-inch wheels and XSE, Touring, and TRD use 19-inch wheels; Touring and Limited also add a standard head-up display, and the base trim misses those upgrades.
• Powertrain: The Avalon uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 301 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic and front-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense P is standard and includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control; blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard, while Intelligent Clearance Sonar with Rear Cross-Traffic Braking is limited to Limited and Touring.
• Infotainment: A 9-inch touchscreen is standard, Apple CarPlay is included, Android Auto is not available, and wireless capability is not mentioned.
• Fuel efficiency: The Avalon XLE is rated at 22 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined; XSE, TRD, Limited, and Touring are rated at 22/31/25 mpg combined.

Which 2020 Toyota Avalon trim should I buy?

The 2020 Toyota Avalon is offered in 5 trim levels: XLE, XSE, TRD, Limited, Touring.

Here's the short version:

• XLE: This is the value-oriented starting point, and it already gives you the Avalon’s core strengths: the V6, the 9-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, and the full safety suite. It makes the most sense if you want the Avalon experience without paying for extras you may not need.
• XSE: This trim adds a more athletic look with 19-inch wheels and keeps the same core tech and safety equipment. It suits you if you want a little more style without moving too far up the price ladder.
• TRD: This is the most characterful choice, with track-tuned coil springs and a sportier setup. It’s the one to consider if you want the Avalon’s biggest personality shift.
• Limited: This is the comfort-and-luxury pick, with the premium audio system, Dynamic Navigation, JBL audio, and the head-up display. It’s the best fit if you want the most upscale daily-driver experience.
• Touring: This trim also gets the premium audio setup, Dynamic Navigation, JBL audio, the head-up display, and an adaptive suspension system. Choose it if you want a more polished, feature-rich version with a stronger emphasis on ride control.

Intelligent Clearance Sonar with Rear Cross-Traffic Braking is available only on the Limited and Touring trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Toyota Avalon?

The market looks selective rather than overheated, so you can shop with patience and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 279 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 64.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $25,925, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Toyota Avalon's resale value?

The current average of $27,179 sits slightly below last year's $27,318.

That small decline suggests the Avalon has been holding value fairly steadily rather than dropping sharply. For a future seller, that kind of stability is helpful because it points to a market that is not punishing the model year.

The Avalon’s strong safety reputation and roomy, upscale character should continue to support buyer interest. If you keep mileage reasonable and maintenance records organized, you should be in a better position when it’s time to resell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Toyota Avalon safe?

The 2020 Toyota Avalon earns the IIHS top “Good” rating across crash tests and safety categories, and it received a full five-star rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense P is standard and includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard, and the Avalon adds a broad set of passive safety features including 10 airbags.

A caveat to keep in mind is that IIHS rated the headlights on XLE and XSE trims as “Poor,” so trim choice matters if you want the strongest safety package across the board.

Should I buy a 2020 Toyota Avalon or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 64.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 model benefits from the TNGA-based fifth-generation redesign that helped revitalize the Avalon.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $23,957, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $27,179 average.
• It brings new tech, new looks, and more power.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $27,461, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $27,179 average.
• It emphasizes comfort, space, and a more upscale role between the Camry and Lexus ES.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price stability, safety, and a refreshed design, the 2020 is the cleanest choice. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2019 is the better value play; if you want a slightly newer model and don’t mind paying more, the 2021 is the alternative to compare.
