Is the 2019 Toyota Avalon a good car?

Yes — the 2019 Toyota Avalon earns a 4.9/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Drivers consistently praise its smooth ride, comfort, and impressive performance, and they also call out its stylish design and strong technology. The Avalon’s use case is straightforward: if you want a full-size sedan that feels upscale and comfortable while still being enjoyable to drive, this year’s redesign fits that brief well.

The trade-offs are clear, though: the technology is described as outdated, and all-wheel drive is not available. Even so, the market still shows 31.3% good or great deals, which suggests there are worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2019 Toyota Avalon reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback points to a car that owners find smooth, comfortable, and impressive in everyday use, which supports the idea that it’s a dependable long-term companion. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the Avalon is better than ever thanks to its new tech, new looks, and more power, while still keeping its comfortable character.

Toyota also adds a standard safety suite that helps reinforce confidence in ownership. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the specific car was maintained well and equipped the way you want.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Toyota Avalon?

At 60.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in any prior collision. Focus on condition, repair quality, and whether the equipment you care about is present, since some shoppers were disappointed by missing features compared with earlier models.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The XLE starts with 17-inch alloy wheels, auto LEDs, dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry and ignition, heated power seats, and heated mirrors. The XSE adds 19-inch wheels, gloss black exterior trim, a sunroof, rear spoiler, paddle shifters, aluminum trim, microsuede seat panels, and extra engine noise through the stereo. The Limited swaps in 18-inch wheels, a head-up display, leather and wood trim, heated rear seats and steering wheel, lighting upgrades, wireless phone charging, embedded navigation, and an upgraded JBL stereo. The Touring combines XSE and Limited features and adds adaptive suspension, sport exhaust, active noise cancellation, and Sport+ mode.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 301 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque, paired with an 8-speed transmission and front-wheel drive. The base XLE is rated at 22 city and 32 highway mpg, while the rest of the lineup gives up 1 mpg on the highway and combined cycle.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with automatic braking and pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, auto high beams, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The Advanced Safety package adds front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, and auto-braking for rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: The system uses a 9-inch touchscreen with pinch-and-zoom navigation, Apple CarPlay, Alexa support, Toyota Remote Connect, and a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to 5 devices. Android Auto is not included, and the system’s Linux-based architecture is meant to improve app support.
• Fuel efficiency: The base XLE is rated at 22 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined. The rest of the lineup is slightly less efficient, at 21 mpg city, 31 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined.

Which 2019 Toyota Avalon trim should I buy?

The 2019 Toyota Avalon is offered in 4 trim levels: XLE, XSE, Limited, Touring.

Here's the short version:

• XLE: This is the best-value starting point because it already gives you the core Avalon experience: strong standard safety, a V6, a 9-inch touchscreen, and comfort-focused equipment. If you want the most Avalon for the least money, this is the trim to target.
• XSE: Choose this if you want a more expressive look and a slightly sportier feel, thanks to the 19-inch wheels, black exterior trim, sunroof, paddle shifters, and interior upgrades. It adds style and attitude without moving too far away from the Avalon’s comfort-first mission.
• Limited: This is the trim to buy if you want the most luxury-oriented setup, with leather and wood trim, heated rear seats and steering wheel, wireless charging, navigation, and the upgraded JBL stereo. It’s the right pick if comfort and features matter more than price.
• Touring: This is the most complete version, combining the XSE and Limited equipment and adding adaptive suspension, sport exhaust, active noise cancellation, and Sport+ mode. Buy this if you want the fullest feature set and the most polished driving experience.

The standard safety package is already strong, and the available Advanced Safety package adds useful parking and camera upgrades.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Toyota Avalon?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 320 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.82% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $23,855, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Toyota Avalon's resale value?

The current average of $23,969 sits slightly below last year's $25,722.

That price movement suggests the Avalon has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right number today. If you purchase near the lower end of the range, you reduce the amount of value left to lose over time.

The model’s strong owner satisfaction also helps support demand in the used market. Well-kept examples with the right equipment should remain easier to move than less desirable alternatives.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2019 Toyota Avalon or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.82% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2019 brings new tech, more power, and standard safety upgrades that make it feel like a meaningful step forward.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $27,369, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $23,969 average.
• It adds a more flagship-like sense of occasion and rides on the revitalized TNGA platform.

The bottom line: Buy the 2019 if you want the better value and the redesigned Avalon’s core strengths at a lower price. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model-year feel and a more premium flagship vibe, the 2020 is the alternative to compare.
