CarGurus Analysis: 2019 Lexus ES

Summary
With 693 currently listed for sale and an average price of $27,314, 33.5% of 2019 Lexus ES models for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Lexus ES 4.67 / 5 stars.
60.6% of 2019 ES models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2019 Lexus ES stands out as a luxury sedan that prioritizes comfort, quietness, and refinement over flash. It was redesigned on the same platform as the Toyota Avalon and Camry from this era, and Lexus gave it increased structural rigidity, a wider stance, and an overall increase in length of almost three inches. The wheelbase grew by two inches, which helped create additional rear-seat legroom, while the seating position was moved lower and further back. Lexus also gave the car a more expressive look with a large spindle grille, sharp body creases, and a coupe-like roofline.
Under the hood, the 2019 Lexus ES offered a 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 with 302 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. The ES 300h hybrid used a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor and a CVT for a combined 215 hp. Standard equipment was generous, including synthetic leather upholstery, heated power front seats, LED headlights, a power moonroof, and a full suite of safety features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning with steering assist, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, traffic-sign recognition, and high-beam assist. Available upgrades added features like a Mark Levinson stereo, a head-up display, a panoramic glass roof, surround-view cameras, a power rear sunshade, triple-beam LED headlights, and a digital key.
That mix of comfort, equipment, and safety makes the 2019 Lexus ES appealing to buyers who want a relaxed luxury sedan rather than a sporty one. Its strengths are clear in the roomy rear seat, upscale cabin, and long list of standard features, while its main limitation is equally straightforward: it is not especially inspiring to drive or look at.

A joy to drive! It is perfect in every way except the design of the Lexus badge on the trunk. Would be better not to be shaded in. Would prefer to see paint color of actual car underneath the badge instead of the black enamel. It is uncomparable! No other car will compare to this car.

Is the 2019 Lexus ES a good car?
Yes — the 4.67/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise the stylish design, smooth driving experience, and luxurious features, and they also call out the comfort of the interior and the brand’s reliability. For you, that means this model fits especially well if you want a relaxed luxury sedan with a quiet cabin and a comfort-first personality. With 33.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market also gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2019 Lexus ES reliable?
Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also highlights reliability and a brand reputation for being dependable and trouble-free over the long term. That matters if you want a used luxury sedan you can count on without expecting constant surprises. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the model’s reputation and more about the condition of the specific car you choose.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Lexus ES?
At 60.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus your condition check on signs of past repairs, uneven wear, and anything that suggests the car’s comfort and refinement may have been compromised.

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.

What is the 2019 Lexus ES's resale value?
The current average of $27,313 sits slightly below last year's $28,209.
That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy well now, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation pressure later. Strong demand for a comfortable, well-equipped luxury sedan can help support resale, especially when the car has been cared for properly.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2019 Lexus ES or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 60.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.18% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $30,084, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $27,313 average.
- It adds more in-cabin tech while keeping the same comfort-first character.
The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2019 is the stronger starting point because pricing has eased and owner satisfaction is high. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer model with added tech, the 2020 is the cleaner upgrade path. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2019 is the one to target first, especially if you can find a clean, well-priced example near the low end of the range.
