CarGurus Analysis: 2019 Lexus ES

Summary
With 684 currently listed for sale and an average price of $27,248, 32.9% of 2019 Lexus ES models for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Lexus ES 4.67 / 5 stars.
60.5% of 2019 ES models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2019 Lexus ES stands out as a luxury sedan that prioritizes comfort, quietness, and refinement over flash. It was redesigned on the same platform as the Toyota Avalon and Camry from this era, and Lexus gave it increased structural rigidity, a wider stance, and an overall increase in length of almost three inches. The wheelbase grew by two inches, which helped create additional rear-seat legroom, while the seating position was moved lower and further back. Lexus also gave the car a more expressive look with a large spindle grille, sharp body creases, and a coupe-like roofline.
Under the hood, the 2019 Lexus ES offered a 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 with 302 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. The ES 300h hybrid used a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor and a CVT for a combined 215 hp. Standard equipment was generous, including synthetic leather upholstery, heated power front seats, LED headlights, a power moonroof, and a full suite of safety features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning with steering assist, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, traffic-sign recognition, and high-beam assist. Available upgrades added features like a Mark Levinson stereo, a head-up display, a panoramic glass roof, surround-view cameras, a power rear sunshade, triple-beam LED headlights, and a digital key.
That mix of comfort, equipment, and safety makes the 2019 Lexus ES appealing to buyers who want a relaxed luxury sedan rather than a sporty one. Its strengths are clear in the roomy rear seat, upscale cabin, and long list of standard features, while its main limitation is equally straightforward: it is not especially inspiring to drive or look at.

A joy to drive! It is perfect in every way except the design of the Lexus badge on the trunk. Would be better not to be shaded in. Would prefer to see paint color of actual car underneath the badge instead of the black enamel. It is uncomparable! No other car will compare to this car.

|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $27,346 |
| Year-Round Low | $26,803 |
| Year-Round High | $28,226 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $28,208 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −3.05% |

There are 685 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2019 Lexus ES a good car?
Yes — 4.67/5 is a strong user rating for this model year. Owners consistently praise its stylish design, smooth driving experience, and luxurious features, with comfort and brand reliability standing out as recurring positives. It also fits well if you want a relaxed luxury sedan rather than something sporty, and the roomy cabin and generous standard equipment support that use case. With 34.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2019 Lexus ES reliable?
Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owners specifically call out the brand’s reliability, along with the car’s smooth, trouble-free feel and comfort over time. That combination suggests you’re looking at a sedan that many buyers expect to hold up well with regular use.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the model’s reputation and more about finding one that has been maintained properly and not worn down by neglect.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Lexus ES?
At 60.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on overall condition, maintenance records, and signs of repair quality rather than just mileage or trim level.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Lexus ES?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 685 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.05% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 60.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $26,803, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Lexus ES's resale value?
The current average of $27,346 sits slightly below last year's $28,208.
That price movement suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also limit short-term upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the current trend points to steady but not rising value, so condition and documentation will matter more when it’s time to list the car. A well-kept example should still appeal to shoppers who want a comfortable luxury sedan at a more approachable price.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2019 Lexus ES or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 60.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.05% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $29,984, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $27,346 average.
- It adds more in-cabin tech for a more modern daily-driving experience.
The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2019 is the stronger starting point because it combines a lower average price with solid owner satisfaction and decent deal availability. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer model with added tech, the 2020 is the better secondary path for shoppers who prioritize freshness over savings.
