Is the 2022 Lexus ES a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Lexus ES earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.0/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Drivers consistently praise the smooth ride, reliable performance, and luxurious feel, and many also like the innovative features. For buyers who want a calm, refined sedan, the ES fits that brief well, especially if you value comfort and a safety-conscious ownership experience. The main trade-offs are its uninspired styling and fairly pedestrian performance, and the base engine is described as underwhelming. That makes it a better match if you care more about serenity and refinement than excitement. With 40.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have room to shop carefully.

Is the 2022 Lexus ES reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to reliable performance, and the car is repeatedly described as a dependable, trouble-free choice for buyers who want a long-term daily driver. The expert evaluation also emphasizes smooth, predictable driving and notes that the ES handles well in normal use. Lexus includes service reminders through its connected-services package, which can help you stay on top of scheduled maintenance. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about finding an example that has been maintained consistently and not worn hard.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Lexus ES?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on every candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the cabin electronics, infotainment controls, and suspension feel, since this is a comfort-focused sedan where small issues can affect the ownership experience. Pay close attention to trim-specific equipment so you know whether the car has the features you want and whether anything important is missing.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim starts with 17-inch wheels, while higher trims add 18-inch or 19-inch wheels, and the interior gets more upscale as you move up the ladder. Base versions are more modestly equipped, so check carefully for the features you want before you buy.
• Powertrain: You can choose a four-cylinder AWD setup, a V6 with front-wheel drive, or a hybrid with front-wheel drive. The hybrid is the efficiency leader, while the V6 is the stronger performer.
• Safety package: Every ES includes Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 with pre-collision braking and pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with steering assist, road-sign assist, Enhanced Lane-Tracing Assist, adaptive cruise control, and Intelligent High Beam Control. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard.
• Infotainment: The base system uses an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa compatibility. Upper trims upgrade to a 12.3-inch touchscreen, and navigation plus the Mark Levinson audio system are available.
• Fuel efficiency: The four-cylinder AWD model is rated at 25 mpg city/34 mpg highway/28 mpg combined, the V6 at 22 mpg city/32 mpg highway/26 mpg combined, and the hybrid at 43 mpg city/44 mpg highway/44 mpg combined.

Which 2022 Lexus ES trim should I buy?

The 2022 Lexus ES is offered in 4 trim levels: base, Luxury, F Sport, Ultra Luxury.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the entry point if you want the lowest starting price and the core ES experience. It gives you the standard safety suite, the 8-inch touchscreen, and the quiet, comfort-first character that defines the car.
• Luxury: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more upscale feel without pushing all the way to the top of the range. If you want a more premium daily driver, this is the trim to focus on first.
• F Sport: Choose this if you want the sportiest appearance and a slightly more aggressive setup, but keep in mind that the car still prioritizes smoothness over real performance.
• Ultra Luxury: This is the trim to buy if you want the most comfort and equipment the ES offers, and you are willing to pay for it.

Upper trim levels get the 12.3-inch touchscreen, Mark Levinson audio, navigation, and the available head-up display and Panoramic View Monitor.

• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.51% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 81.4% of listings are accident-free.

What is the 2022 Lexus ES's resale value?

The current average of $34,736 sits slightly below last year's $35,268.

That tells you the market has eased a bit, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper short-term resale gains if you plan to sell soon. The current price trend suggests the ES is holding value reasonably well rather than dropping sharply, which is a good sign for a luxury sedan in this segment. If you buy at the right price and keep the car in strong condition, you should be able to protect more of your investment over time.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Lexus ES safe?

The 2022 Lexus ES earns Top Safety Pick+ recognition from IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Every ES comes with Lexus Safety System+ 2.5, which includes a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection and cyclist detection, left-turn intersection support, lane-departure warning with steering assist, road-sign assist, Enhanced Lane-Tracing Assist, adaptive cruise control, and Intelligent High Beam Control. Standard blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert adds another layer of everyday protection, and the car also includes 10 airbags. The safety package is strong across the lineup, so you do not need to move far up the trim ladder to get a well-equipped safety suite.

Should I buy a 2022 Lexus ES or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 40.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.51% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines a calm ride, multiple powertrain choices, and top-tier safety.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $31,126, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $34,736 average.
• It emphasizes comfort, quietness, and value.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market mix of inventory, pricing momentum, and safety, the 2022 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the smarter value play, especially if you find one in excellent condition.
