Is the 2017 Toyota Tacoma reliable?

Owners rate it 4.2/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback repeatedly describes this Tacoma as reliable, dependable, and long-lasting, with owners also pointing to its trouble-free ownership experience and strong resale value. What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Toyota Tacoma?

At 60% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can confirm accident records, title status, and ownership history before you get too far along. After that, prioritize a thorough inspection of the truck’s body, frame, and interior condition, since those areas can reveal how hard it has been used. It also makes sense to focus on maintenance records and overall wear, especially if you are comparing trucks with similar prices.

That small decline suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now if you plan to keep the truck for a while. If you buy well and keep it in good condition, you should have a better shot at a strong future sale price.

Should I buy a 2017 Toyota Tacoma or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 31.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.83% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.2/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $23,592, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $25,753 average.
• It offers a redesigned, highly configurable midsize pickup with a strong reputation for capability and predictability.

The bottom line: If you want the newer model-year pricing context and a broad pool of listings, the 2017 is the better primary target. If your main goal is saving money up front, the 2016 is the smarter secondary path, especially if you find one with clean history and strong maintenance records.
